I was thinking about having a Ruger Bisley converted to .454 Casull, I know you can get pretty much the same thing in a .45 Colt but I was thinking since I'm just getting started in the reloading thing that it make sense to get something I can shoot factory ammo out of in case I don't feel like loading at the time. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had one converted to .454, you just don't see them. I didn't know if it just doesn't work or what. I'm pretty sure the gun can handle the pressure just like a 5-shot .45 does. Thanks for any info

I know a number of people with said conversion and I can say that I believe the Blackhawk frame can take it (within reason), however, there are a number of notable handgun builders (to include Bowen, Huntington, Linebaugh)who will not convert a Blackhawk to .454. Keep in mind that the SAAMI max pressure for the .454 is 15,000 psi greater than the .475 Linebaugh (65,000 vs 50,000 psi). I think a constant diet of max loads would/could eventually take its toll on a Blackhawk. That said, it isn't necessary, particularly with today's powders), to push pressures that high and still achieve real "Casull" velocities.

IMHO,,, I would use a little stronger platform especially if you plan on a lot of full house loadings. If purchasing an FA83 is out of the question or BFR I would look at the Ruger SRH. Anyone of the great smith's mentioned can make these revolvers smooth as silk to shoot.

Wouldn't a SRH + Gunsmith $$ = FA83? What would be the advantage of going the srh + route? I know that if you had two used guns for sale, one a SRH that had been modified, and one built stock to do the same job, I'd be more inclined to go with the stock unit.
Note, I'm not saying your argument is not sound, I just don't understand it, and seek clarity.

well for one thing a Ruger Super Redhawk is not very easy on my eyes to look at and I've had one already in .454 that I hated and traded off. But it would be cheaper and easier to buy a FA, I like Ruger Bisley's myself. I've got a .500 Linebaugh already so I don't need a .454 for anything other than just want. I've never seen one coverted to .454 and I've seen alot of FA's

I literally just walked off of the range with the new .454 SRH I got a hold of and I just managed a 3/4-inch 5-shot group at 50 yards with Federal factory loads. I know they're not the prettiest guns made, but man, this one shoots like nobody's business.

I know they shoot good but I didn't care for the recoil with there grips like they are they don't seem to fit my skinny long fingers! I've never shot a FA .454 but I've got a .475 FA and they work better for me.
