Let me start off with I am an addict. I more contender barrels than my wife knows about. I am thinking about another wildcat in 357 herrett or plain 35 remington barrel. I favor the 14 inch barrels. Any advantages or disadvantages to either one. I hunt deer and hogs in louisiana. If I go after bigger game I have 2 375 JDJs to choose from. I am leaning to the herrett because I like reloading and forming my own brass. That is another addiction I have that I can thank this site for. I guess bottom line is there any reason to choose the factory 35 over the herrett. Bullet selection appears comparable.

I love my 30 Herrett. I love loading for it. I also owned a 35 Remmy. I loved shooting it while hunting. I used the 180 grain Hornaday spire point. It was brutal from a bench. I started to enjoy my 30 so much that i sold my 35 to my friend. Either one would be fun to have but i would lean towatds the Herrett just because making brass is fun.

I've recently started monkeying with a 30 Herrett in an MOA. Very cool little round to me. I too enjoy the case making process which I think is one reason all my contender barrels are wildcats of one type or another from JD. I'd probably go with the Herrett. Always heard of lots of ignition issues with the 35 in the contender in some barrels. Just never owned one personally so I don't know how much truth there is to that.

I've heard the same. If I was to go with a 35 remmy I would go with the rimmed variety. The Herrett just has a cool factor to it.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

After you fire the Rem's, just neck size them and all will be good. My Rem is a tackdriver and hits like Thor. I also had a Custom Shop .357 Herrett but lost interest in it after shooting the .35R.

I love shooting DanB's 357 Herrett!
I shot my second Bull Elk with a TC 14" 35 Remington and a 200 Hornady Spire point in front of a stiff charge of H322 at 125 yards. full penetration and exit and he's on my wall!! Today, I'd probably use the 180ssp head. 35 Remington is way under respected, and the 57 Herrett is a lot of work.....but that's what makes it fun....unless of course the guy who sells your the 357 Herrett provides gobs of brass and bullets! Thanks Dan!!

Never had any issues with misfires with the 35 remmy. It was sure brutal on my wrist. But you have the JDJs, so you are used to pain. Not a single misfire with 180 ssp horneys. Lost one or two cases from splits but nothing more than normal

I sort of figured the 35 rem had issues because folks were full length sizing and bumping the shoulder back but I wasn't sure. It's a hammer from a handgun but the little Herrett rounds are really cool for some reason

I have some 180 SSPB's in the classified.
Does anybody look at that section anymore?

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Friend of mine had a 35 Rem and he said it was brutal to shoot and he had problems with misfires but said it was very accurate. He got rid of it because he did not like the punishment. I have been shooting the 30 H for several years now and it is a blast to shoot. Did not have any problem finding already formed brass for it seems no one wants to mess with it no more. My next 14 inch super will be in a 357 Herrett. I feel your pain of addiction. There is only one cure. More barrels....:)

Can't find any bullets anywhere, unless you shoot like a 6.5 or a 338 or some other unusual caliber. Everything else is backordered.
