All I can say is that...I want one. Plain and simple...I know that I don't need one but I want one. There's no rhyme or reason to my lust for this revolver but I gotta have one. Check out this article in Guns & Ammo Magazine:

http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ga_handguns/sw460_072905

I handled one of these revolvers at the Buffalo Gun Center and it balanced remarkably well for a 73 ounce gun that stretches 15" from grip to compensator...Did I happen to mention that I want one? It would make a great big brother for my Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. Unfortunately the gun comes in at about $955 before tax is added on...I just can't justify this type of expense right now. This might just go beyond the threshold of asking for forgiveness instead of asking permission.

i held one at a gander mountain the other day
yes its nice but i found it to be too heavy it just seamed hard for me to move around with it not even scoped but i all so held a bfr in 460 with a 7 1/2 barrel
an that would be my choice of weapon it was at least a pound lighter an just seamed more i guess you can say huntable an easyer to hold an keep a sight picture
an having it come with a scope base an being 100$ cheaper than the S&W that can go to the cost of shells dies an the leupold scope to toss on it lol

Hmmm...I didn't know that BFR made a 460...I'll have to check them out too...Cheaper is a good thing. The list price for some of the dealers here in Western NY is $150 cheaper than the S&W.

OH YEAH!! I want one!!! Just a matter of time, and some fun money.

As for which one to get the BFR or the Smith, it would be the Smith hands down. At the last Handgun Hunt shoot I got the chance to shoot both a BFR and a Smith in 500 S&W. The BFR was with 350gr and 500gr loads. It was brutle with both loads. With a firm grip recoil made the gun stand straigt up. The grip was hard and beat your hand. The Smith was loaded with 440gr cast bullets and was very pleasent (easy) to shoot. The grip is very comfortable and recoil was very managable. I shot the BFR 5 times and that was ENOUGH!! I shot the S&W 15 times and could have shot all of Jerrys rounds with no problem.

So you could get the BFR cheaper, but buying an aftermarket grip and having the magna-porting done just to shoot it the price will be the same if not more than the smith. I know which one I will buy when the time comes. Just my two cents worth.

Hmm...Interesting points...I think I will wait for a while for the 460XVR to come down a little in price...The 500 was priced a little higher when it was introduced too. I don't mind having to purchase an aftermarket scope rail...I have a fondness for Jack Weigand scope rails anyway and I would probably end up purchasing one of his over the other brands.

I bought the first one I could get. So I've had my S&W .460 XVR for a little over 3 years. Started with open sights and using Hornady factory 200 gr SST loads, and some 45 LC for plinking. It now wears a burris ballistiplex on warne tactical mounts and rings. I feed it a steady diet from 200 to 360 grains, everything from solids to hollow points. If you reload there are some great loads.

For those that lust a word of caution be sure you know what you are getting into - it is not like your 357 or 44. And when you scope it those 73 ounces go way up - but the more you hold it the lighter it gets.
