Does anyone have experience with both the Magnum research BFR and the S&W X frame that can tell me which one might have an accuracy edge? Looking into 500 S&W specifically.

With a kicker like the 500 I would also take into consideration the shootability of the gun. My experience with the BFR was less than enjoyable with the lil ole 475, you couldn't give me one in 500 Mag.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Both are very accurate. The smith much more refined and typically a much much better trigger. I find the smiths easier to shoot well but the bfr is stronger imho and comes with a scope base so it depends what ya want. Both guns will be limited by the shooter and not by the guns inherent accuracy

I don't have either, but do a .500 Taurus Raging Bull. It does 1 1/2-2" at 100 with 375 Xs. Have done deer out to 150 with it and a brown bear at 125. They get trashed a lot, but mine is excellent.

I've never shot the BFR version but have some experience with the Smith 500. Although it's large and cumbersome, it was amazingly accurate if you could drive it. If you are up to it, I think you'll be pleased with accuracy.

I have had both and they have both proven accurate, but a number of BFRs I've shot have been exceptionally accurate.

Been my experience also, both are accurate, way more so than most shooters can shoot. I think the biggest decider would be DA vs SA

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm leaning towards an 8 3/8" Smith. As for the cartridge itself I do have experience with it as I had an encore pistol chambered in it. I just decided that I prefer revolvers. As for double or single action I really have no preference as I shoot single action either way.

This is the kind of accuracy I am talking about......in a relatively compact package. Very hard to beat IMHO.

I have both as well. Three S&W's 2 500's and a 460 and a BFR 475. To me BY FAR the Smiths are the most accurate. My BFR is not even close. I am sorely dissatisfied with my BFR. I want to like it but it always disappoints me.

I liked the .460 XVR well enough, and accuracy was good, but carrying around that ear splitter leaves me a bit cold.

That is the problem it has been sent back and it has not changed. Now the cylinder does not rotate into battery. I would love for mine to shoot like yours. A Ruger Mini 14 is more accurate than mine.

Well I pulled the trigger (haha gun humor) on a S&W 500 the other day.It is the 8 3/8" with the blade front sight. I don't like the hi-viz and other fiber optics. I have yet to put it on paper but I did take it out and pop some plastic bottles just to get the feel of it and see if it shoots. Boy howdy does it ever. Even shooting plastic bottles off hand, factory loads, I was making little groups on the bottles with no specific point of aim other than "bottle". Now comes bench work, push it too 100 yards off a rest and load development

Doc could probably write a book about this. He could fill the whole book with kill pics, from big to small wvhitman has killed them all.
