I did some bullet expansion test and was disappointed with the hornady 225 sprp bullet. I shot this bullet into a drum of water twice. First round showed no sign of expansion and second round went out bottom of drum sideways not to be found. The 220 grain fpsp was great. Both were shot with max charge of h4895. Has anyone tried the 200 grain bullets. I hunt deer and hogs with this gun and want some expansion. I love mushrooms. I posted pictures on bragging board.

Did the drum of water have a lid on it? I'm asking because without the lid & the added pressure, water by itself is of little resistance.

No lid. Drum was on side with small hole notched in top and side. This allowed me to shoot into drum from end without getting on ladder.

I always set the drums with lids up and shoot them side to side. Even with 300 gr. bullets out of my 376 Steyr, I always get expansion. My wife is a Vet. Technician so she brings home giant plastic cat litter tubs with lids. They are great for testing bullets.

This is very unusual. I've used this bullet for years in the JDJ and get excellent expansion. Usually big exit holes, never small holes. If you want a big expander in the JDJ look up Lehigh Defense of Quakerstown, PA. Due to the ammo shortage this year they made a 250 gr. HP with slits on the nose to aid in expansion. I tested these bullets this year for them in JDJ, .376 Steyer, and .375/.284. Here's what the JDJ damage looks like. The others are much more radical

I might have to try a few of those in my 375.
