Well Dan B. - I went to the range today to sight in the 375 Win carbine barrel. All I can say is that it is a shooter AND A THUMPER !!! Why I haven't been beat-up that bad since I called my current wife by my first wifes name !! I would far rather shoot the 375 in the handgun. I don't exactly know what the little thing weighs with the composite stock, but it sure isn't enough. The 200 grain Sierras and the 225 Hornady SPs both shot very well. Going back to the range next week with the 220 grain Hornadys for another beating. I'll let you know.

Rupe, my friends think I'm crazy when I tell them cartridges like these hurt worse in rifle configuration. I still stand behind this belief! There is no way I want to put my 16 1/2" 416 Rigby against my shoulder. My Marlin 444 is not pleasant to shoot for extended (20-25rds), but I can shoot my Katahdin in handgun all day long with no ill effects (physical not mental!) G

Gerry - Send me the doubters and I'll back you up on that. After the first couple of shots I grabbed the "sissy bag" and I don't care who knows it !! This is definitely not a gun I would settle down to shoot for enjoyment. I think my teeth are still loose.

Rupe,

Give the Barnes 210gr X a run in your .375. They shoot lights out from my 14" Contender barrel. This caliber is fast becoming one of my favorites.

hangunnr - Ordered a couple of boxes of the Barnes 210 X bullets to try in the 375 Win. How do they perform on deer ? Thanks.

I can't answer that yet..... Just got my hands on the barrel this spring. If the Whitetail gods are willing I'll have an answer for you shortly after November 12th.

I'm using 31.5gr of Reloader 7 and crimping in the cannelure. You could increase the powder charge if you long seat the bullets. They're running just under 2150fps. This should be more than enough out to 150yds or so.

Good luck with yours.

hangunnr - I have been shooting the 200 grain Sierra over 35.0 grains of RL7 with excellent accuracy. Anxious to try the Barnes. Thabks for the heads up.n

hangunnr - I contacted Barnes today and they said that the 210 grain X bullet, which he referred to as the TSX, is designed to expand at 1800 fps. Are you getting 2100fps with 31.5 grains of RL7 ? Appears that the bullet should work.

I am averaging in the 2140's with 31.5gr. Sounds like it ought to be the ticket if they perform as Barnes says. Do you think it'll be enough horsepower for a 100lb doe.....

With the X bullet seated to the cannelure I'm just to the point where the base of the bullet is touching the powder without compressing it.

The only downside I see to the X bullet is they foul a barrel pretty quickly. I'm not complaining though, with the way they shoot I can put up with a little more cleaning.

hangunnr - Just received the 210 grain Barnes bullets. Going to load and get to the range this week I'm anxious to give them a try. I have not sent any of the loads over the chrony yet and I wanted to ask you about your load with this bullet. Rocy Raub in his data lists the 210 grain Barnes over 38.0 grains of RL-7 with a muzzle velocity of 1995. Another source lists the 200 grain Sierra FP over 39.0 grains of RL-7 with a muzzle velocity of 2147. Did you chrony that load ? Guess I better break out the chrony and see what my barrel is doing.

Rupe,

Now you got me wondering if my chrono is accurate. I will be heading to the range this weekend with some known loads to verify it's function. I'll throw some more .375 loads under the screens and we'll see what the results are.

My original testing was done using Federal large rifle bench rest primers, new Winchester brass, a new can of RL7 and the Barnes. If I remember correctly the ambient temp was ~90.

I would very much like to know just how much they're compressing the charge when using loads with upwards of 38gr of RL7. That much powder fills the case to within 1/8" of the case mouth.

Time will tell.

All the talk about getting beat up by a gun just made me realize that it's been a while since I touched off my 14" 45/70. Will change that tomorrow. The first time I shot it the muzzle blast melted the plastic bag filled with kitty litter being used for a rest. For a moment I thought it was snowing...in July!

Here I sit very disappointed and somewhat embarrassed.....

Took the .375 Win back to the range for some chrono testing. She's spitting the Barnes 210 X in the 1775fps ballpark....

The only thing I can figure is that I transposed my 7-30 Waters data onto the .375 Win page in my logbook. I was shooting a new load from the Waters that day and must of recorded the load data into the wrong area. The data I had recorded for the Waters was in the 1800fps range.

Sorry for the mis-quote on the numbers. I've been doing this long enough that I shouldn't make silly errors like that.

How did your testing go with the Barnes X Rupe?
