I've got a new .327 Federal Ruger single-seven,and I went and tried it out today and the base pin jumped several times. I was shooting factory Federal ammo, and it would jump at least once or twice every time, had to keep pushing it back in.I don't know if the pin is a little under sized or what, and also the little pin holding the rear sight in is loose. I've never had this trouble on any of my Rugers, I know it can happen on the bigger calibers and thats why we have Belt Mountain pins out there now, just never thought a small caliber would have this much trouble

Is the base pin retaining latch engaging properly? On my Bisley 45 it can take a few attempts and some wiggling on the base pin to get it to lock in. If it isn't right the pin will walk out, even with not so heavy loads.

Rod, too.

Yes it seems to be locking in right, just seems kinda loose fitting or something don't know what the deal is. Think I'm going to ship it right back to Ruger and tell them to fix it

Man I'm jealous!!! That 327 Federal is going to be my next project. Tired of fighting for 22lr and 22mag, so wanted something I can reload myself. Anxious to get it, but it's gonna be next summer or so before I get serious about it.

Got pictures???

On another site, guys said they were returning them to Ruger for this to be fixed. If you didn't want to do that, a Belt Mountain base pin would probably solve the issue.

I still have the problem with the rear sight pin coming out to deal with, I hate to take a punch and try to 'swell' it in there, it would be hard to get out if I ever had to. I've never sent one back to Ruger before, will they cover shipping?

For the rear sight pin, just push it halfway out and then bend it a little bit and tap it back in.

thanks I might try that! I think the belt mountain pin would take care of that other problem, just never would have thought a little round like that would shake stuff loose!

I was just reading on other forums that the single seven is a lemmon, people have all kinds of problems with them I guess and if you ship it back to Ruger your more than likely not to get it back because they don't have parts to fix it! What kind of deal is that?

ryan,

I have all 3 barrel lengths. I've shot about 200 rds. through each. No problems, whatsoever. I realize that is not a great amount of shooting for a "real" test. I can't speak for the Internet "experts/pundits"; however, I'll keep making "lemonade" with mine.

Glad your having better luck, I ordered a Belt Mountain base pin the other day for mine, hopefully that fixes it. I hate to have a single shot single seven!

That's weird.. I've always had good luck with Ruger. I had a three screw .44 mag rebuilt some time ago, and they did a fantastic job. Killed three deer with it since. If nessary, find a gunsmith that can make a new pin for it. The roll pin for the sight can be spread, but do that one gingerly.
