Here's a pic of the XP-100 that I just picked up and have been talking about for the last few days. It's in the original stock, Redfield base and three ring mount, and has a GREAT trigger in it. The barrel is an aftermarket (not sure what make) that was contoured to fit the factory stock. It's chambered in 7mm Mauser (7x57). The barrel is VERY thin at the end...the wall diameter is only .071"!! After one shot yesterday at Rupe's house it was warm and after two shots it was hot. The scope alsp came on it and is a Burris 7X w/ target turrets.

I was looking for something with the .308 case head to build a LR rig and Rupe was looking for a .221 FB for varminting...I found the .221 for him near my house and he found the 7mm for me up near his house! What a pal...huh!! This can be a bad thing when two addicts are enabling each other!!

Hope to shoot it on Friday.

Danny-boy, don't let that thin barrel scare you. If you remember, my 22-250 had the same contour and we shot nearly 40 rounds with it and it didn't hurt the LR accuracy too bad out to 400. As you know, it is not optimal though. I think mine is goint to go the 260 Rem route. That will give me a 243, 6.5 and 7mm-08 selection.

The 260 makes a fine light/med game piece out of the XP. Mine is in the 100xpr version. Barnes 120x or 125 Nosler part and Varget to 2750 really makes it sing. Accurate and great terminal energy. Only problem is the rear grip stock. Would much prefer the mid grip but cant find any trigger linkage to make the change.

Dan, plans right now are for me to come out and hunt with Greg on Fri and Sat 02-03 Dec. If I can work it out, I'll be out late Thursday night. Maybe we can get together Friday night and BS and do a hunt on Saturday? I have 1 doe tag for out there. I'll be in touch closer to then.
Cossack-I may keep my center grip original in 221 Fireball and rebarrel my rear grip with a stainless fluted 260. Thankks for the info!

Nice looking rig. Looks like you may be setup OK with the scope. R you thinking of sending it in for a Ballistic Plex or would u just keep the current reticle as is and just run clicks for LR? What kinda ranges r u talking about, and what size game r u after??

Steve...I'm playing with the Striker 7-08 to see how well it's going to shoot. If it will do the point blank to 400yd deer hunting then I may set this XP up for some bigger game and longer range work. The Striker is pretty heavy w/ the laminate stock and heavy taper Shilen barrel. And with having the grip set further to the rear it just does not balance like my heavy .222 XP-100.

I'm thinking the XP chambered in 6.5-284 (or a bigger case 7mm cartridge), medium weight tube and HS Precision silhouette stock would make a nice medium weight gun that would work for game up to elk.

If I do that then it would cetainly get a 3-12X32 w/ the BP reticle. The 7X that is pictured (and came on the XP) may go on the 7-08 and I'll just see how ell the existing reticle will work for shooting out to 400-500 yards. Using the 7-08 w/ 3-12x32 and the standard reticle I can make first shot hits from a field position (prone and bipod w/ no rear rest) on 10" steel plates to 350 yards using a +1.5 zero at 100 yards. I'm going to increase that to zero the top duplex at 100 yards and see at what range the crosshairs will be zeroed. Then I'll see at what range that places the bottom duplex as zero. Running clicks to ok for varmints but I don't want to do that for deer or larger game.

The longest range I have available is 500yds so that's about all I can really get serious about.
