i was wondering the safe use of loads for the 45/410 barrels ?
would they handle 454 cas full power loads ?
and now the new 460 S&W ?
i have seen write up's on the 450 mongo (which uses a 444 case with a 45 cal. bullet)
i have barrels for both the contender and the encore.
right now i use 454 cases loaded to the contender book standards (so i don't use the hot 45 loads in my revolver)
any input would be great

Do NOT shoot .454 or .460 loads through your Contender!! The only thing you'll end up with big hospital bills!!

The Mongo will work in some .45LC/.410 barrels. They won't in mine...T/C changed the chambers at some point so this would not be done.

IF you are talking about the contender then hell no the contender will not take the pressure of a full 454 load.
if you are talking about an encore it will take the pressure of the full power 454 but not in the 45-410!

I talked with JD Jones about making me a 454/410 barrel and he told me NO it is unsafe to shoot a round with that pressure in such a sloppy chamber.

Don't do it for sure. Even if it wouldn't blow up the contender (and I think it would)since it's chambered of a 3" shell the long jump to the lands would make accuarcy a relative term.
When I use mine as a 45 Colt, with the same loads that are super in my Ruger, the results are more a pattern than a group.
If you must shoot slugs through it try the 410 slug. It's about as accutrate and powerful as a 45 Colt in mine.
