A year or so ago I built a poor mans race gun out of a base RIA 9mm 1911. It was really fun to shoot so I figured what the heck might as well do a 45 ACP one too. I had an older Mil Spec Springfield that never could find a identity so it became the volunteer. We added a Wegland base, a custom cocking lever and a 25 mm Trophy Dot.
I finally got to run some rounds thru it this weekend and I was pretty shocked. This sucker will shoot. I was getting sub 3? groups at about 60 yds. This 45 shoots much better than my 9mm. Best I can do with the RIA 9mm at the same range is 12? ish far from a tack driver.
This 45 will shoot and I was just shooting a std 225 gr cast RN over 6.0 gr of Unique.
If you have never considered a build like this you may want to think about it.
