I was out turkey hunting Saturday with my son. He decided at the last minute Friday night to go along. So at 10 p.m. we dug out his gear and tags. We setup on a semi circular field about 45 yards apart. At about daybreak I saw the quick flash of a flag n the opposite edge of the field 125 yds away. About two minuets later a doe stepped out of the woods followed a short time later by a fawn. It took about 5 minuets for them to walk into view of my son. The whole time I was thinking “I hope he’s awake and watching this”. They worked there way within 30 yds of my son the entire time heading straight towards me. They seemed more curious of the decoys but never got closer that 60 yards from me. I head a tom drumming near by and heard another gobble but we couldn’t get any to come in. after an hour or so (a very long time for my son) I saw my son appear from his hiding spot. Seems not only was he awake, but he was filming the deer and couldn’t contain his excitement. He wanted to come show me. Just incase I could see the two deer right in front of me. He also told me that strange drum beat in the woods made him a little nervous. He thought someone was trying to start a truck. On the ride home he told me how amazed he was that the camera flash didn’t spoke the deer!! That answered the question of why the turkeys didn’t fly in.
I think he may have finally caught the bug.
