by point blank, do you mean 3yds? what kind of sights? How big is the paper? If this ever happens to me I move the target real close and use a big target, so I can find my shots

Hmmm?!?!? I don't know how you practice your disciplines, but a bit of dry fire practice may be in order. It sounds like severe flinch to me. Hell I can ring an 8" gong pretty regular at 25 with a Vaquero, and it ain't got no sights. You might try sand bags so you can rest the whole frame and take the strong hand out of the equation. Grip tension also has a lot to do with POI. Hmmm. Maybe bad loads? Home rolled? Keep trying, don't know what else to say ;\)

Rod, too.

Missing a target at 10 feet signifies a serious problem. I would take a very close look at your firearm and ammo. The last time I had something like this happen, I was trying to shoot 7mm-08's out of a 308 barrel. If handloads, was the correct caliber bullet used? Has something happened to the barrel? I cant imagine something happening to iron sights which would change the point of impact that much. I would be very careful. Closely inspect the firearm and use completely different ammo and try again.

Good luck. Let us know what you find.

I did have trouble with my SBH shooting high, but not high enough to miss a target at that range. Lead in the barrel maybe? If no lead, dry fire and load up some light 44sp and shoot those. Have someone else shoot the gun and see what happens. That is about all I can think of.

How many rounds did you shoot? I have to wonder if a squib load stuck a bullet in the barrel, and the other bullets are stacking up behind it. Very dangerous situation. Did any of the rounds sound funny (loud, soft). This would explain the point blank range and no bullet hole in the target. My FIL had this happen to a S&W revolver in 38 special. It bulged the barrel. I'm always careful with the revolvers if something sounds funny. STOP, UNLOAD the gun and look it over well.

I absolutely agree with s4s4u. He is giving very sound advice. I acquire a set of “snap-caps” for your pistol. It made it very obvious if I was jerking the pistol or consistently pulling the hand gun one way or the other. Dry firing really helped my target /all around shooting. It can be done any ware and it is cheep. Doing just that on a daily basis for one month significantly made my groups tighter. That will also give a person more confidence in their shooting. And might help determine weather it is the loads or not.

Now that's scary, and news to me. I'd surely think they'd feel/hear a difference in the shot. Recoil and sound should get one's attention. Hard to believe a gun could hold up to that, but then it's a Ruger ;-) Rod.

Best roll out the cylinder and take a peek
