Ok, so I have 2 days left until I get to pick up my Hunter Single Six, I decided to go pick up some cleaning supplies (brush, patches, jag...) and some ammo, turns out there was 4 different velocities I noticed; standard, high, hyper, and subsonic, so this is my first .22 and I dont know whats supposed to be good or consistent, and I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with what (good or bad) and what y'all prefer, I just want something that consistently accurate. Thanks.

ya never know what will shoot best in your rimfire till ya try it....but cci mini mag hp, cci standard, or winchester dynapoints are 3 for ya to get a start with, and are mid priced. some use federal bulk....but i havn't had luck with older ones i've had. ya just gotta try in your own gun.

Check out Vol. I on page 73 and you'll get a pretty good idea of comparative velocities; the article includes data for the Single Six Hunter. For my money, use the Aguila Super Extra HP's - they are simply the best .22 hunting ammo for small game I've tried.

My Single Six likes Winchester Wildcats and T22 as far as the cheap ammo goes. They are great for just plinking and general fun. CCI Mini Mags also shoot well but are getting a little pricy for just plinking.
I have not tried the expensive stuff......yet.

+1 for the Win Wildcats. It has shot well in my Bisley, 22/45, and 'Tender match. So good I haven't looked for much of anything else. Your mileage may vary, and if you come across something better, please share.

Rod, too.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Ill have to pick up some of each. All the different ammo types really gives you a variety of choices, and is confusing, and know I know what else Im picking up when I pick up my new toy, now that I know a few reliable brands/types.
Im also wondering now about .22WMR ammo, (but its not my main concern), I was looking at all the different brands that have the V-Max bullet type, because I want something for longer range work on ground squirrel's, jack rabbits, etc, etc...
And I will share with you all, any favorites I come to find, and I will try everything I can find locally (which is just ALOT) because heck I bought this lil' hunter to shoot all and everyday I feel like going outside, whether Im practicing or hunting varmits.

my two favorite loads are the cci mini mags and the cci green tag ammo, I prefer the minis for hunting and green label for making people ooh and ahh at the range. I shoot these out of singe sixes, heritage rough riders, henry golden boy, antique stevens single shot, rossi single shot, and a savage auto loader I used to have and these two rounds were by far the most reliable and accurate. I should state that my brother in law with an iron sighted ruger 10/22 and me with my single sixes and contender barrel and then eventuall my Henry, we took out alot of ground squirrels past a 100yds from knowing the guns and using the cci ammo.

I second Wapitirod's vote for CCI mini-mags and Green tags as I can't find anything that shoots as good out of my Contender or tricked out 10/22

In .22LR your mileage can really vary between firearms, but, generally speaking, good quality standard velocity .22LR ammunition will supply superior accuracy in all handguns at effective/ethical handgun hunting ranges. Remember, for small game, your real target (brain or chest core) is only as big as a golf ball.

I have had good luck with CCI Stingers. But that is just my experience.

My CCI stingers always have gone bang, but they end up in groups 2X to 3X the size of the little groups. I guess my question is what do you mean by good luck?
