Well, when I first got into handgun hunting I started with a contender and a custom 14" .223 barrel. I then moved on to a 14" 6.5 JDJ which was a phenomenal load. After a couple of years, I came across a deal on an encore with a 12" 7mm-08 barrel which required a trade for my ruger super redhawk .44mag. So, I traded for the Encore and regretfully sold my contender. Don't get me wrong, I like the encore better, but wish that I would have also kept my contender just for giggles. I recently got the bug for another custom barrel, so I called up Bullberry and ordered a 15" full bull .260 remington. I liked the 6.5mm bullet so well in the 6.5jdj that I figured I would go back to it and give the .260rem a whirl. I did however send the ole 7-08 out in style this past weekend, taking a nice black hawaiian ram.

CONGRATS on taking the nice black hawaiian ram!! You will like the 260 I'm sure. I think the 308 based cartridges are just right for the 15" encore barrel.

Tig and I just talked this out last week. After that I ended up ordering a barrel from McGowen for my Striker....chambered for .260 Rem! Should be here in about 2.5 weeks.

I think that I am going to very pleased with the .260. With everything that I have read and researched, it seems to be a very unappreciated caliber. There is such a large selection of bullets and different loads, which is something us handgun hunters don't experience often. One could very easily work loads to take just about any animal on the north american continent from varmints to mule deer, with the exception of your large game like elk, moose, etc.

Congrates on the new barrel. That's as exciting as getting a new handgun I'll bet.

I got that one in Texas on a place that my buddies have been going to for a couple of years. It was an extremely well ran place and very enjoyable. The sad part is that the owner lost it in a divorce settlement and was forced to sell. We were one of the last groups to hunt.

Very nice Ram. I like your choice of handguns. But I am partial.
