Wes & Steve, Welcome to HH! Gary runs a great site and the folks here will do what they can to encourage you and answer the questions you have.
Wes, What capabilities or limits do you have in terms of mobility? Your vehicle can make a great blind. You could easily use a revolver or a single-shot pistol hunting from a vehicle. If you are right-handed it may be easier to sit in the passenger seat. It all depends how you park and the direction you will most likely shoot. Ernie

Ernie,
Thanks so much for the info on the bag! I'm able to walk short distances with a walker and have full upper body function. I am planning on hunting hogs this weekend with my 44 mag blackhawk and was seriously considering using my truck as a blind..... I'll send pics if I get anything!

You are welcome. I hunt with single-shots more often than revolvers, so I am a little more adept in that area. If you ever have a question give me a holler. 307-257-7431

I'm Ray. I am an EMT in Vermont and am new to handgun hunting. I try to hunt and target practice when I can. Wish I had more time to spend in the outdoors. I have a TC Encore in 270 that I want to use as soon as I get it to fit me.
Hunt hard with passion.

I'm Eric and live in N IL.
I have taken my Python into the deer woods several times, but have yet to bag a deer with it. I recently purchased a Contender and a 357 mag barrel and had it converted to 357 max. I haven't gotten that one to the range yet, but I have loaded a bunch of 180 XTP to try out at my next opportunity.
I day dream about harvesting deer with my 357mag, 357max, and 44mag, but so far I only have been successful with slug gun and muzzle loader.

I'm Ken living in Memphis and looking to go to Denver in the near future. Started handgun hunting in my home state of Texas back in the early 80's. I've lived in Houston and Austin and sure do mis Central Texas.... Someday I'll be back there.
It is nice to see many of the post from several people I have known on other forums. I have been a member of Specialty Handguns and the old Long Range Handgun group many years ago.
I shoot Contenders for the most part now days. Sold off all the old style frames and went with the new G2 frames. A couple of my personal favorite barrels are the Bellm rechambers in 357 MAX and 444 Marlin. I shoot cast bullets out of both using the RanchDog Molds.
My Ruger Super Blackhawk was traded off for the Ruger Redhawk with Rings when it came out in 1984. I had it ported and have never looked back. It is one of those that will always be exempted from any trade.
Gary, This looks like a great site and I look forward to many more visits and post.

My name is Hal. I am a retired oncology nurse. I like all types of shooting and own various firearms. For handguns that can be used for hunting I have a 44 mag SBH, 3 Birds Head Vaqueros in 45 Colt and 2 New Vaqueros in 45 Colt. I have a S&W M-53 in 22 Rem Jet, a S&W M19 and a Springfield 1911 I would like to convert to 45 Super for possible hunting use. I would like to get started in handgun hunting. I figured this would be the best place to start.

Hello, my name is Bill. I moved from my home in Western Kansas to Kansas City recently for school. It has put a damper on my hunting time, but I hope it to be worthwhile in the end. I grew up shooting small game with a Ruger MkII, and progressed to hunting deer with Encores, XP100s, and a Wichita. I have been most fortunate to learn a great deal from other handgun hunters whose paths have crossed mine over the last few years. I'm always looking for a new challenge, and I think open sighted revolver hunting might be the next step.

Welcome to HH Bill! I grew up in South Central Kansas, just South of Wichita on a small farm. Shooting irons with a revolver is surely a challenge and it seems from your history, you should be up to the task. If you still have that XP and or Wichita there may be some challenges you can still enjoy with those as well which is one of my ongoing challenges. Ernie

My name is Gabriel, I live in Key West, Fl where I am an officer with the Key West Police Department. I grew up here diving and fishing. I also run some fishing charters on my spare time. I try to spend several weeks a season hunting in central Florida. I mainly use archery tackle and rifle. I have hunted hogs with a 357 for many years but just recently I purchased a ruger 44 hunter and plan to use it in place of he rifle this season.
If anybody wants to trade some fishing and dive days for some hunting days let me know we could work something out. I am always up to visiting new areas.

Hello, the name is Scott Gray. I can't remember the last time I hunted with a rifle, nothing wrong with 'em its just that I hunt with longbows and recurves but.....there is always a but, I recently purchased a Ruger NM Super Blackhawk. It is a .44 mag and sports a 4 and 5/8 inch barrel. I plan on it being on my side everytime I step into the woods and I will hunt with it next year. I have already gleaned a wealth of knowledge just by reading the older posts on HH. I look foward to sharing my success and failures with ya'll.

Hi, My name is David and I haven't hunted before..... I do however love shooting handguns and am preparing for a fall 2011 handgun hunting career start. I've already posted a couple of questions, and please bear with me as I learn. There are many friends and family who are encouraging me to start hunting and willing to teach me but I don't know anyone that hunts with a handgun so I'm curious. Thanks for the kind replies to my posts and I look forward to making some new friends.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Mat. 11:28 NKJV

My name is Joe & I found this site by Binging "Handgun Hunting Forums". I just ordered a .30/06 barrel for my Encore & I am looking forward to hunting with it this fall.
I live in Wyoming & am employed by the federal government.
I have to ask TCMan which ship he is on. I am an old tin can sailor.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard Joe and Jim!
Wow Jim, you registered over a year ago.
Joe, currently I am stationed down in New Orleans with the with the Navy Band. The picture you see is the commissioning of the U.S.S. New York and I am the one holding the tuba in the center. While it is possible for musicians to have sea time, in my 5 years of Naval service the only boat I have set foot on was the U.S.S Lexington in Corpus Christy Tx for a “Change of Command” of a fighter squadron. And considering it had double morning lines and is currently a museum, I don’t know if that counts. LOL

I'm Stan from Ohio. I've not hunted with a handgun much. One button buck with a Ruger redhawk. Needed money and had to sell most of my guns. Getting back into in now and got a Thompson Encore with a 22-250 barrel on it. ( look out groundhogs ) Want to get a barrel for deer this fall . Looking at a 460 S&W . What does anyone think about a deer barrel for Ohio? Has to be a straight wall handgun.

Name is Russell... I Love firearm's. cut and dried Never been in to hand guns... I have had several over the years..Just never could hit anything. Sold them all from that dissapointment. Got one left and that is my SS Ruger Super Single Six..Cant hit anything with it ..But ut aint gonna break me trying. However I just put a SRH 9.5 barrel on layaway . Seem's as though my buddies want me to hog hunting again with them next Jan.I have a habit of whatefer I decide to get into ..I get in deep. Goal is to learn to shoot this thing as best as I can..And have fun. I am 55 years old and have a few shoulder and arthritis issue's..But that is part of life.So I dont bowhunt like I used to. But in Illinois we can use handguns for whitetail So Maybe I will carry this Hockey stick (as my son calls it) along with me. I have just started to tinker with some custom gun stoff..Relpacing barrels bedding ..tweaking stuff. I am in the process of building a custom Encore "Smokeless" muzzeloader. I already have a Savage that I converted from the .50 to a .45 with a PacNor barrel. It is my baby. she isnt quite complete yet But imagine living in a "shotgun" state with a gun that will shoot 1.25 inches @ 200yds.... Yep she sure does! I sighted her in 1.5 at 100 and she is 2.5 low @ 200.. with a 200 gr bullet and at 2700 fps. So here is a little about me....I am glad to be here and Hope to draw from here..And contribute also. Thanks Drop

Handgun hunting sense 1975... that is awesome. If you have been hunting that long I am sure you have a nice collection of goodies that you reload for.

After registering a couple of years back it is way past time to introduce myself. Charles Lenz, married, retired and living in Bulverde, Texas. My first handgun was a .177 Diana pellet pistol which I did little with but plink occasionally. Next I bought a .22 revolver, home defense for my wife. That was a real “Saturday Night Special” that neither of us shot much as the cylinder didn’t align properly and would shave lead! Next came a Ruger Mark II Bull Barrel that after a year or two some thief decided I no longer needed. After bow hunting with everything from a rawhide backed Osage bow to the latest compound I decided I wanted to try handgun hunting. Of course I went the most difficult route and bought a .45 flintlock or as one member here stated “flinchlock”. As anyone experienced with handguns would expect that didn’t work out for me. I now have a Taurus 608 .357 that I began to get serious about last year. Due to my vision not being what it once was I started with a Tru Glo red dot which I wasn’t to pleased with and replaced with a Simmons 2 power scope. But after trying to get on (and stay on) hogs that didn’t stand still feeding amongst deer that I didn’t want to shoot I now have an Ultra Dot Match Dot.. I put it on right after this past season, have not got to the range but believe it will satisfy my needs.

I'm Adam, and I live in Northern CA. I spent 16 years in the military(10 active, 6 Reserve) and have just recently been dischrged. I do a lot of bear and pig hunting in NCA, and prefer to hunt with open sighted revolvers. Recently, I started hunting deer with revolvers and got hooked. BTW I'm a certified 45 Colt junkie, and have been loading and experimenting with the cartridge for 20 years. My goal this year, is to kill everything with one gun(S&W 25-7, 45 Colt)
