This is what I was told at the SA Police Office at the Joeburg airport. One handgun only. Extra barrel for Contender or Encore is OK. Starting in July Ser.# must be stamped on both side of the frame and barrel. For the most up to date information and for questions, go to the PHASA web site. I'm going to take my barrels to SSK and have them lengthend to 16.25" with a break and put a butstock on them for the next trip. You can't take two guns with the same caliber and you're allowed 200 rounds per gun.
Now for my hunt. Eland at 150 meters. First shot was to far back as he was walking fast. 225gr Partition stopped on far side skin. Second shot was at 200 meters with a 250gr Northern Precision bonded bullet. Hit high in the shoulders and went straight threw. 36" horns. Red hartebeest, 60 meters 225 Partition, straight threw, 18" horns. Mt Reedbok 160 Meters facing 225Partition traveled full length with exit, 6 3/8" horns. Waterbok 225 partition @ 140meters, spine exit, 20" horns. 1st Zebra, 360yards, 225 Partition, through shoulders and exit. 2nd Zebra, running away @ 125yards, hit left hip and bone and artery, 225 partition. Black wildebeest, 225 partiton 240meters lying down, hit in front of should and smashed spine. Finished it with 250gr bonded (fantastic bullet). Warthog, broadside 40 yards running, 225 partition, exit, small teeth. Duiker, 40 yards, 4 1/2 inch horns. Steenbok, 50 yards, 4 1/2 horns. That's it. I had a great hunt and the 35-06JDJ performed with out a flaw. I think this is a better allround caliber than the .375JDJ. The PH was very impressed and took a springbok on his birthday with it. I'll try to get some pictures asap.
