I geuss this is more for xphunter than any one. I see that Savage has come out with an F class rifle in 6.5x284 Norma. There is an article in Gun World about the cartridge. They state that the Norma differs a little from the wildcat in neck length. I was wondering witch one you had? At least i believe you have an xp-100 chambered for this.I was reading some other things on the web. Some guy has a 1000 yard record with the 6.5x284. He shot a 1.5 inch 5 shot group at 1000 yards. How sensitive is this cartridge? My 223,308 and 30-06 were fairly easy to find a "good" load for. What are all your thoughts on the round?

My 6.5-284's (have three all together) in specialty handguns (2-XP's and one in a MOA Maximum). Mine are based off the 6.5-284 Lapua brass, which I believe is the same as the Norma cartridge.
Norma, Hornady and Lapua all make brass for the 6.5-284.
This cartridge has been easy to load for and is highly accurate.
Lapua Brass, Fed 210M primers, H-4350 and 140 VLD's

Just this past Monday, I had a friend visit me from outside the US who had never shot a specialty handgun before and had never shot a rifle beyond 400 yards. He is a good shooter and is invovled in the 100/200 yard BR game. He killed a prairie dog @ 669 yards and 1008 yards with my rear grip 6.5-284 XP-100 (140 A-Max bullet).

How would you compare the 6.5-284 to the 708? I have been debating getting a 708 Imp(Akly) using 307 brass for a while. But I am always open to new ideas, especially when the voice of experience is speaking!

Just read your reply on the 6.5 Mag. I can not question the 280 Aky in the Encore, but what would recommend in the Encore platform that does not require a break? From the conversation I had with you last time I have a funny supposition the 6.5-284 is still going to be in the mix. PS, deer hunting under 300 yards.

I would give this kind of comparison.
Think of the 6.5-284 case as a 30-06 necked down to 6.5 (basically, the same capacity).
Deer hunting under 300 yards: 260 Rem, 7mm-08 will do fine without a brake and either has the capability for deer @ the distance mentioned.
Everyone's recoil sensitivity is different, so it would be difficult for me to tell you what would work for you.
Depending on the length of barrel and overall weight of the SP would also determine preference.
