How big a deal is it to attach a muzzle brake? I am needing one on one of my barrels and I need it pretty soon for a hunting trip. Its a 15" inch barrel that I need an extra inch on so I can use as carbine or pistol. Is a 1" muzzle brake very common? I live in central Oklahoma if anyone knows a smith in my area please let me know. The one I have always used just went out of business. Lastly how much should a 1" brake and installation cost me?

I think Kral had his gun back from Gary Reeder within a couple of weeks and Gary will install brakes on barrels even if they aren't his and I believe it's 150.00 which is in the ball park for most commercial outfits.

One thing to keep in mind. For a muzzle brake to be legal for the purpose of extending a barrel to 16" it must be attached permanently. Thus it must be welded or threaded and pinned, or some other manner that cannot be removed. I know that Ross quoted me $70 for a brake and thread protector, plus return shipping. He has a few short brakes in his line-up. Here is the thread that Shawn was refering to:

P.S. He usually turns around in a week or less.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

For the price, the quality and the turn around time you can't beat Ross.

Ross (above) is your guy! He called me after I left him a message while he was out moose hunting, we talked about the right configuration of port holes for my 375 Win. Ross is a handgun hunter. He said that he had next day turnaround...and he did! The brake works great, just as adverised. I sent my bbl off priority mail on Monday and it was back to me on Friday. $70.00...thats right $70.00, and that included return postage.

It just doesn't get much better then that!
