Hi everybody,
For you, what is the best scope mount for a Ruger new model super blackhawk (44Mag)?
What do you think about the Weaver mount (#301) in place of the rear sight?
Thanks for your answer
Dan

Dan,
Welcome aboard. For my SBH I have a redfield magnum mount. It has not failed yet. The rings can be a pain to install as two are twist in style and the third is windage adjustable. I have not had any problems with it.
Hope this helps.

I used the Weigand on this one. You have to D&T two holes but the Weaver style offer maximum versatility for various optics.

Rod, too.

I would go with the Weigand scope mount. I tried a Weaver mount that you speak of. It clamped on the barrel on the front, I cracked a new scope on the 4th or 5th shot on a Colt 357. I could be wrong but I felt like the reason it happened is because of the front not being that solid. Vibration from the recoil maybe. Scope was a Simmons Pro Hunter, same as on my 44 with no problems on it.

My first post on here had to do with this problem. Somebody on here suggested the Weigand mount. Good luck!

Thanks for yours answers.
If i resume:all of you said the weigand is better.
If i look after the Weaver in first it's because he more short than Weigang and i want to put on a small red dot sight, not a scope.
The second reason:it's because no gunsmith required to put the Weaver,Weigang too?

I think the Leupold’s are the strongest but I like the looks of the Weigand’s better. I acutlly have a set of Weigand’s for my SBH.

And you confirm: no gunsmith needed for the weigand? simply remove the rear sight and put on the base?

Weigand has to be tapped. So does a TSOB. I've used both & they're very good. Edge Custom makes a no tap thats supposed to be strong but I have no experiance w/it.

You have to drill and tap the two holes in the Weigand but you don't need a gunsmith to do it. Just a 6-48 tap and a #31 drill bit. You locate the base with the rear hole, and drill the front two through the base. A drill press is helpful but not absolutely necessary. You can borrow my tap and bit when I get it back from Montanan if you like.

Rod, too.

I think you need to have 3 drilled and tapped for the Weigand and 2 for the Leupold.

Kral,i saw this gun on pictures galerie: he's fantastic
I want the same (i ask to "père Noël",LOL)
I love this bi-color
About Leupold mount,if you need to put Leupold rings only:i don't want it,i prefer Weaver or Pica style, for example with this Leupold base i can't put my red dot sight,or may be i make a mistake:we could put weaver style rings?

Naw, you're correct. The Leupold require dovetail rings, no Weavers. This is why I like the Weigand, you have more options for sights.

Don't know about the Leupy, but my Weigand needed 2.

I like Leupold

http://www.handgunhunt.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=777&limit=views

That is what I have on my Blackhawk 45 Colt and several of my T/C barrels.

If you go Weaver try to get a steel base and go with the Warne Rings

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Mine has 4 holes. Beetnest thing I have seen. I remember this because it was going to cost me 20. A hole to get them drilled and tapped.

I don’t trust myself. I have ALL the proper tools still don’t trust myself. Rod has told me horror stories about how he had to send his 410 GNR SBH back to Reeder to fix a fu-pa. 20.00 a hole is pricey, but it is cheaper than filling the holes in with wield and having it reblued. With my luck I would warp the frame after filling the holes. LOL

I may do it latter, but not right now.
