Back when I joined the site you guys warned me of its dangers. This is not a laughing matter...LoL, Its the truth.
Now that I sold and traded off other firearms due to the "bug" I have caught off of here. Here we go:
I have a 15" 22 LR for my Encore, and I want to mount my rifle scope upon it. What is the yardage that you men 0 in with a 22LR with a rifle scope. Can't wait for some small game hunting.
Thank you, Roger

During our winter league the 22LR class shoots paper at 50 yards, but then shoots steel at 100 yards. I sight in at 50 and hold 6" high at 100 for the steel gongs. I leave my zero at 50 yards. I would think 50~75 yards would be a good comprimise for hunting with the LR.

Whether rifle or pistol scope, on a 22LR I'd sight 1" high at 50 yards which whould put you real close to zero at 100. Plus or minus 1", to line of sight, clear out to the century mark means a lot of dead tree rats. Best to chrono your barrel and then you can really dial it in.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

small game in the woods here would be a short range proposition. i sight in at 25 or 50yrds, and those ranges is where i target practice at. been a while since i done any shootin, but from memory, there is about 1/2" of height difference in 25 and 50yrds.
for a precision "leafy tree" shot on a squirrel, i'd want a 25yrd sight in.

Kentucky….no place like home.

Alright, Thank you, I think I'll start of with 25 yards and play around with it. See what I come up with.
How does using a chrono help dial in your barrel?

If you know the exact velocity that the bullet leaves the barrel, along with the bullet weight and BC, you can plot the trajectory of the bullet. With this information you can adjust the sight so that the bullet will stay within a certain distance of your line of sight. Say for squirrels, a small target, you may want the POI to be no more than 1/2" higher or lower than your line of sight so that you can hold dead on without having to compensate for the trajectory out to the point that it drops 1/2" below line of sight. Just put the + on the target and squeeze.

For centerfire/deer I adjust so that the bullet will never be more than 3" above line of sight, anywhere along it's path and know that I can hold dead on out to the point that it drops 3" below, which is about as far as I'll normally shoot. Beyond that 250 to 300 yard mark you will know how much you need to compensate for additional drop, also from your chrony info. It takes all/most of the guesswork out of the process.

This information will also tell you the distance where the apex of the bullet will be so you know where you will need to set up your sight-in target.
