Anyone using either the 375 Super Mag or 375 GNR ( 445 SM necked to 375 ) ? Curious as to velocities obtainable in a 14 or 15" Encore barrel with 200 or 220 grn bullets and if they will expand at those velocities. Might use some cast but more than likely the Sierra 200 grn or Hornady 220 grn. Looking for a "big bore" but with modest recoil.

why not the .375 jdj? Loaded down it has minimal recoil especially in the bullet weights you're looking at.

In an Encore, why not go with the 378 GNR or the 375 H&H?

That's just a shortened .375 Winchester so why not go for the full length version as long as you are not thinking revolver. The recoil is modest and it is effective to near 200 yards.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

BTW: anybody with any experiences of an Encore in .375 H&H? I'm entertaining the idea of such a gun in the long term. It's a cool caliber and would suit an African safari quite well, I suppose.

I have a SS 17in Reeder Full bull 375 H&H AI in an Encore barrel. I am glade it has a very effective break.

MMKT, have you made up your mind yet or did we make things worse?

I have a funny suspicion that some of answered the way we did because you are talking about the Encore platform. In a Contender I would look at the 375 GNR, JMHO. It is equal to the 375 Win without all the recoil.

T/C man, Not confused as I have owned all those mentioned. Encore in 375 H&H & 375 JDJ and Contender in 375 Win. What I'm wanting to know is what velocities are obtainable with the 375 SM or the Reeder 375 GNR. As far as downloading the JDJ, can be done but I'd have to burn more powder than a smaller case to reach the same velocities. No doubt the bigger case can produce "more" velocity but at at the expense of a lot of powder. I've talked to someone who pushes the 220 grn Hornady out of a 10" tube at 1900 FPS with the 375 GNR. Add 4 or 5 more inches of barrel and I would think that would up to at least 2000 FPS, maybe more. Not that far behind a "standard" load in the 375 JDJ. If I can hit 2000 FPS , that's fine. Wondered if anyone else had any actual experience with either round. Should be about the same performance as a 375 Win and I like the looks of the stubby little case. What I'm looking for is reasonable power along with reasonable recoil. Every body has a different threshold of what they can tolerate, I've been thru the 500, 460, 444 etc. BUT, after a back surgery and a shoulder surgery prefer something "milder". I also have 3 Encore frames waiting for barrels. I generally use the Contender platform for the smaller dia cased rounds such as 357 max.
I think I'm going to order the 375 GNR from reeder and will post results when/if I get the barrel.

Thanks all.....

Update 10/14 Ordered the barrel today from Reeder. 375 GNR Encore 14" heavy taper, stainless , no brake. On sale for $275.00 and $85.00 for the custom dies. Could be rechambered to 375/444 if I'm not happy with the 375 GNR, hopefully from what I was told it will have enough zip.
