This morning I was sitting in my stand when this nice red fox trotted by. I couldnt help myself, Ive been trying for one of these guys for a few years now and this one finally gave me my chance! I saw some movement in one of the adjoining hedgerows and I thought it was a cat at first. Then he came out into the field where I got a good look at him. He went up the edge of the field where I couldnt get a shot, then he cut out across the field. I whistled at him 5 times before he made his last mistake and stopped at about 80 yards and looked to see what the noise was. My Encore made short work of him.

Congrats! That is a beautiful trophy. What caliber were you using?

Awesome trophy.
Not often you get a chance at a nice fox.
The pelt looks to be in great shape.

Thanks guys! I am shooting 260 Rem. I will be taking it to the taxidermist tonight if I can get ahold of him. Im thinking of a nice full body mount if he can fix the damage. I hit it in the head on the side thats on the ground. I was aiming for the neck, but he turned his head just as I pulled the trigger and the bullet got him in the side of his face. If he cant fix it, Ill have him tan and stretch the hide.

For future references, speaking from a taxidermist point of view, the best place to shoot small game, if planning to mount, is a broad side double lung shot. I know it's not always possible and sometimes and accident, but that shot usually does less hide damage, because of less chance of hitting bone. Regardless, beautiful fox and hopefully your taxidermist will be able to fix him up for you.

nice....good shot. i got one a couple yrs ago with my 30-30AI contender. the 130gr hornady was great on such a small critter.

You're welcome. Yes, the encore is lovely. You're just at the beginning of many trophy's with your encore. They are a very accurate and versitle handgun. If you haven't give them a try yet, I suggest checking out the pacmyre grips and forearm..Nice!!!

Those are nice grips. I might have to give them a try, not a bad price.

I love shooting foxes, but the da*n coyotes are eating them all. Their numbers are really down since the coyotes have arrived.

Nice shooting and an awesome trophy. A fox and a coyote are on my hit list.

Great shot! If you can hit that little guy a deer doesn't stand a change!

Excellent!!!

I bagged a fox a couple years ago using a XP-100. He would have been a taxidermists worst nightmare. The shot was about 250yds and he was running my direction at a slight angle...the 162A-Max caught him in the near shoulder and exited out the opposite hip. He was most disemboweled and rear end nearly torn from the front end.

Really nice. A fox rug makes a nice taxidermy option, also.

Thanks! I am taking the fox to the taxidermist tomorrow night. I was very surprised at the quote on the full body mount, only $200 base price and then extra platform detail work (fake grass, logs, etc) ups it from there. I am thinking $250 should get me close to what I have pictured in my head.
