Using my 308 win Encore, I shot a doe at about 30 yards. I was in a tree stand that had a shooting rail. The shot was at a weird angle halfway between standing and sitting. I hit the deer a little far back, but at first I thought I hit it a little forward. The deer held its front right leg up and ran maybe 30 yards. She stopped and stood as she tucked into a ball. Then she disappeared. I gave her a few minutes and found her about 10 yards from where I saw her last.
I used a Barnes 130 grain tipped tsx bullet with muzzle velocity around 2730 fps. I was impressed with the bullet. I had one of the best blood trails I have ever had. My entrance (hit a rib) and exit hole were about double diameter. The bullet went straight through with very little bloodshot. The liver was split in several pieces and the stomach was just a pile of grass. I would of liked to of made a heart/lung shot, but one of the lungs was bruised (about 1/3 of it).

Congrats on your 1st handgun kill! Sounds like the bullet worked well for you. Good combo.

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.
