A question regarding Sierra bullet construction: In regard to the Game King and Pro Hunter bullets, besides being boat tail and flat base respectively, are there any differences in jacket contruction between the two? From a handgun hunting perspective does one open up more readily than the other or are they about the same? I've noted a few references to good handgun results with Game King specifically but I don't remember seeing any about Pro-Hunters.

Can't help you here, as I have only used the Game King's.

I've used Pro-Hunters, with good results, but only in long gun applications, so I have a few around that I could put to good use in a handgun or two.

.....but I want to make sure that they're not contructed in a way that they may not expand properly and pencil through the intended target.

Right now, I'm working up loads for 250 Savage and 7mm BR. I have a supply of 100 grainers in 25 and 120 and 140 grainers in 7mm. My original Encore barrel was a 7mm-08, I had a load worked up with the 140 grain P-Hs, but only used them at the range.

I like the higher BC on the Gamekings as for the jacket I would think they were very close. I just like the boattail design better.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I just wrote Sierra's 1-800 number on a Post-it note, I think I will give them a call next week.

What was the word on this one! When I called them about the 257 117gr Game Kings they told me that the Min recommended muzzle velocity was 2800fps. They highly encouraged me to shoot 100grs out of my 257 Roberts.

I've used Game Kings for years, 140s in 7mmBR and 7x57 XPs, many deer, elk, and lesser creatures, always text book performance. Can't comment on the PHs.

Speaking of Sierra bullets. American Handgunner has a great picture spread of Sierra Bullets and Starline Brass in the March/April issue on page 70. Nice eye candy.

The 300gr. Gamekings are by far the most accurate bullet I have shot in my 376 Steyr Competitor.

I just had a nice conversation with one of the Sierra technicians. In general the Pro-Hunters are a little tougher then the Game Kings due to the jackets shape and length for a given weight bullet.
