Good day
Wondering if anyone can help me with a load for my Savage Striker in 243. I did make a post about this way back but can't seem to find it. I've been trying Hornady 100 grain spire points with IMR 3031 without much luck.I used to like this load in my rifle when I had it but I've been getting 2 to 3 inch groups with the Striker. I've also tried some 55 and 75 grain bullet that were recomended with the same group size. I must admit this gun is consistent with it s group size, too bad they're all 2 to three inches.

Thanks for now.
Mike

My .243W SSP's like Varget and 70 or 75gr bullets. The current .243W XP-100 I have shoots about 1/3 MOA out to 400yds w/ 70gr NBTs.

My 243 Striker likes 75gr V-Maxes and 80gr Sierra SSP bullets over Varget powder. At 200 yards I had a couple 5 shot groups that averaged 1.88". That was with a 6 pound factory trigger that had enough creep for two halloweens. LOL<LOL I'm sure they would have been better now that I have the trigger down to 2.5 pounds and somewhat less creep. I also load the 80gr Single Shot Pistol bullet. I have no bench groups but it has been 85.8% shots on charlies with a 98.82 average yardage.

Let ya know how I make out.

If you can't find Varget, Reloader 15 is a close second if not a twin to Varget. I have used it in a couple 243's and it acts just like Varget. I think Dan will agree with me on this.

Good day

Well I couldn't find any Varget around here but was told IMR4320 would be close to the same. I just happened to have seven pounds of it so I loaded 20rds with 41grs and topped it with a Hornady 75gr bullet. Can ya guess the results??? Yup, 2 to three inch groups. Oh well, it's fun to shoot so I think I'm going to play with the loads a bit but I think I'm going to start playing with it on plates a little just to have fun. Next time I'm going to bring one of my Contenders as I used to with me to see how they shoot because I know what I can do with them. Maybe I'm just having a bad day over and over with this thing.LOL

i would suggest you not load 20 rounds of one arbitraily selected load n expect it to shoot with that bullet or pwder choice. you need to work up in increments of 1/2 gr from starting loads or even mid chart towards max, while watching for pressure signs along the way.

load 5 of each powder charge n test fire. you may find what it likes if one charge tightens up the groups.

if none show promise, try another powder n do the same thing over again.

if nothing shows.....change bullet n start the process again.

Kentucky….no place like home.

Good points Kyode, Thanks

I often start at the high end of a load because most of my loads end up there anyways. This has backfired a couple times as I have had to pull a few because of to much pressure. I always make sure to bring a couple guns and/or loads when I go to the range because I have to drive an hour one way to shoot my pistols on an approved range to stay legal up here.

Mike, I hate to change the subject, but I thought handguns were illegal in Canada. That is the Manitoba you're from, I guess?

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Good day KRal
No problem on changing the subject. Handguns are not completely illegal here(yet) but they're always trying. If a person is licensed you can own them but can only use them on a government aproved range. That's why I have to drive an hour to get to the range.
