I was thinking about buying a Nikon Encore EER 2.5-8x28 scope for my Taurus Raging Bull 454. I like the 30" eye relief it offers.

Any body here use one?

I have a 2x monarch and a 2.5x8 monarch. The 2x is on my sons 30-30 contender and the variable is on my 475 linebaugh. I'm love mine, very pleased with'em.

I have the 2.5-8 on a 7mm08. the eye relief changes a lot with power setting on it. but with my arm length and gun set up it works great. down low I am extended, not stretched but a little bend in the elbows. up high its more like 12 or 14 inches but works great on the bench or prone. those are the placed I shoot longer ranges and the higher magnification works well. I own 6 Nikons at the moment. each class is represented prostaff, buckmaster, monarch and the omega/slughunter that is basically a buckmaster and the encore that is on a encore. great glass, all seem very repeatable and take a beating on some of my stuff. I would recomend picking one up and holding it first to make sure it works for you

Holy!!!! Are you supposed to mount it in the front sight holes?

What is the minimum eye relief on low power?

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I've been very happy with their fixed powers but I was reading the reviews on the variable at Midway and the same sentiment was down the line which was the eye relief at higher powers would shorten up too much. If I remember correctly actuall eye relief for that scope is rated at 9"-30" it's not a constant 30" through all powers. For someone like me that is tall that can become an issue so if possible get your hands on one in the store or from a buddy and check it out before buying it. The two I've had the best luck with as far as clarity, eye relief and toughness are the Leupold 2.5-8X and the Bushnell 3200 Elite with the Leupold taking the Edge in clarity but with the price difference between the two the 3200 is an excellent value. I've also had problems with eye relief on the Burris scopes however I love the 3-12 but I can put one on anything that comes back hard.

I have a Nikon 2.5 x 8 on my Competitor in 416 Barnes. I really like it. It has held up to MANY rounds and the 416 really wallops! Even shooting at targets on 8x the eye releif is far enough away that I feel comfortable to blast away w/ this beast. But, I can tell you I'm not as tall as Rod.
