Have any of you thought about taking one of the NEF or H&R single shot rifles and converting them to a handgun? I'm not much of a gunsmith but it would seem easy to cut down the barrel and install a custom grip. These guns only run between $100 and $150. And why haven't these companies jumped on this already? Or have they????

that is something i can't understand for the life of me why doesn't H&R make a handgun outta the handi-rifle?
it would be SO easy!.....like arhunter says....change the stock to a grip...and walla!
if there are legal issues....then they need to address it, and make some.
i'd buy one in a second!

Kentucky….no place like home.

H&R did make handguns at one time. IF you take you h&r and make it into a handgun you will be in violation of federal firearms act of 1968 (I think thta is the one) If H&R wants to start making handguns again they will have to do a lot of paper work then setup the shops for it. with the current handgun laws it would be very hard for them to make a profit.
The T/c contender and encore are not much more then a fancy H&R with light desing changes.

But you guys are right if H&R made a handgun like the handi rifles that would be a great hunting handgun and you could not hurt it.

From what is current my vote would be for the Striker (used)in 7mm-08 (first), 260 Rem (no longer made), 308 Win.. They typically have great accuracy, but the trigger is not the best. These rigs will proably be the best for inexpensive LR shooting.

ARHunter-Don't let the ATF hear you say you are thinking of cutting a rifle down into a handgun-it's one of those things that are greatly frowned upon. Also it's where 15 or 16 (inches) will get you 20 (years)!
Having H&R do it is one thing;doing it after the fact is a very different matter. Just my $.02 - Gerry.

great ideal...but like the fellers pointed out, once you get caught it turns ugly real quick.every one should contact h&r and pester them until they give in... (or quit responding one)but yes it would make a cheap and accurate handgun jim257

It would be neat to be able to purchase an accurate handgun for a lot less than a TC Contender or Encore. I'm not about to cut down my 223 Ultra Varmint Hunter though.
