I have never used the Sierra JHP. I have used the 240 gr GD. As I have posted here before, I only used it once. The bullet was very accurate from my FA 44 mag. However, it failed to exit on a broadside shot on a Sika buck at about 100 yds. Therefore, I now prefer a little heavier bullet.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

How 'bout the Sierra JHP on an antelope from a Super Blackhawk, does that count?

You can see the bullet entrance point, right on the shoulder. It knocked her flat and killed her, but did not exit. This was about a forty yard shot after a good long belly crawl embellished with a touch of cactus.

Well some uyswant exit holes others want the energy expended inside. I have shot some deer where the bullet blew right thru with little expansion. I thought I missed at first. but Thanks. Chuk

Gotta hand it to ya, I tried that belly crawl with a touch of cactus in Wyoming and after about 15 yards I decided a 120 yard shot was doable. Spent 2 days messing with my pocket knife pickin cactus.

I recommend that my antelope hunters bring these essential items (amoung others) Knee pads and elbow pads, and a tweezers.

That day I did not have my pads, but did have the tweezers.

For deer it really depends on what you want your bullet to do. If you want the bullet to expand quickly and not exit, use either one of these bullets. I have used both on deer and black bear and they did exactly that. All my deer went down with one shot, but it took all 6 shots in the cylinder to drop the bear. Personally, I have come to like bullets that penetrate, so I have stepped up to the XTP 300GR in both my 44 mag and 45 Colt.

I have used the Speer gold dot 210 gr in 41 mag on antelope. After crawling through the above mention cactus most of the day I took a nice buck at about 125 yds. He ran about 20 yds and did a back flip. Bullet did not exit. I attributed that to the extreme range and lost velocity. I'm considering the Speer 270 grain gold dot soft point for deer in my 44 mag. They should exit on deer and work on bear of hogs as well.

Ya and Like a dope I forgot mine and bought a set at lowes in Gillette. Oh did I mention that it took 2 weeks before the last cactus spine came out.

I have used them both and have had success with them equally!

Love the picture of the antelope, there is something really cool about a picture of game taken with a revolver with irons.
