you'd be surprised at how many "knowledgeable hunters" that aren't handgunners that think accuracy is determined by barrel length. doesn't make sense. Yep!

Not to sound naive, if it has no effect on accuracy, why do some pistols offer longer barrels?
The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

A longer sight radius aids many shooters when using open iron sights. You may or may not shoot better with a longer barrel -- this all depends on you personally.

There are a few reasons, including what Whit said, as well as increased velocity and reduced muzzle flip with a longer tube. The additional length also adds muzzle weight which does help steady the aim. And, some just like the looks one way or the other.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Gotcha, so it seems like the preferred length of you guys is 5-6 inches for a compromise of the advantages of longer and shorter barrels.

When I chopped my Bisley I settled on 6", one of the reasons was that 6" was the rule in many states, plus it just handles well.

I agree s4s4u. The cylinder should count as part of the barrel. Typical case of a law made by people who know nothing about what they are making the law about! That sentance sounded wierd, but you know what I'm saying.
MN You are absolutely correct. I didn't like the law in Colorado that didn't allow handgun hunting for Antelope and Elk, etc, so I worked to get it changed. If y'all feel that strongly about it, you can do something about it. Well... I think I'd rather just grumble about it, and not actually DO something that requires effort. Way easier that way, and I still get to complain about it...
Actually, it's not a problem here in MN, and I don't see myself putting forth much effort to change it...but I think we still have the right to call a stupid rule stupid...
MN
Unfortunately, an attitude like that if applied in general will get us all in trouble, especially during an election year.

I like that very much. I would love to have that done. Any idea what that would cost? Hope that question isn't taboo. Rod? you'd be surprised at how many "knowledgeable hunters" that aren't handgunners that think accuracy is determined by barrel length. doesn't make sense. Yep! Whit, You contribute so much!!!
