well sept. 1st finally came around, ohio's first day of squirrel season. I was pumped to say the least ! I had my taurus 22 mag that had never been used on an early season squirrel hunt and I was excited to see how it would do. It was very warm with temps in the high 70s at 7 in the morning. I heard lots of squirrels in the tree tops above as I silently snuck underneath of them. After looking for good shooting oppertunities I finally got one when a fox squirrel came down a tree directly infront of me at 7 yards. I squeeked on my hand to stop it than put a bullet through its shoulder, shooting just a bit low and missing its vitals. It than jumped into a sapling to my left and started coming down. When it paused I put another winchester 40 grain jhp right in its chest. This time dropping it literly at my feet. the distance of the shot had been an honest 6 feet. I than looked over to see a grey squirrel coming down the same tree the fox squirrel had. my first shot had been a close miss but this squirrel also paused as it ran down the tree, giving me another shot. This time I concentrated on not rushing the shot and was pleased when I saw the squirrel drop as the shot broke. That squirrel was 5 yards away when I dropped it. I think my full body camo was really working ! As I was walking out of the woods I saw a comotion infront of me in the tree. Out of no where 2 grey squirrels come running down a tree 9 yards away. I quickly squeeked on my hand to stop them as I drew my revolver. The squeek worked like a charm and the one grey squirrel stopped and looked to see where the noise was coming from. Thats when the bullet caught it squarly in the head. I couldnt of been more pleased of both the gun's preformance and how close I was able to get to the squirrels. All I need to do is concentrate and not rush my shots so I can connect on the first shot. monday sept.3rd was my girlfriend's ( the one who got me the taurus) birthday and she wanted to spend the morning squirrel hunting. she isnt quite ready for the challange of using a pistol so she used my marlin 39A 22 long rifle. I had the taurus and her brother had a smith 36 38 snub nose that he wanted to try out to see if he could get a squirrel with. Well my girlfriend shot 2 squirrels with the 39A so I decided it was time I tried to get her brother on a squirrel. we had so many close calls but nothing would come together. finally a black squirrel was in a tree above us 10 yards away. He shot twice but didnt manage to connect with the squirrel. I saw the squirrel flatten itself out on a limb 15 yards away and I decided I would try a shot at it. I shot and it took off running, So I assumed i had missed. All of a sudden the squirrel jumps out of the tree and runs but suddenly falls over dead ?! I walked over and sure enough it had a hole right behind its shoulder. I was suprised that I did hit the squirrel ! after seeing how well the taurus preformed, my girlfriends brother decided he is going to sell his bow so he can buy a heritage arms 22/22 mag combo dedicated just for squirrel hunting. I thought that was a very good idea. I am in college now so I dont get to go hunting as much as I want but I will go every chance I get! enjoy, SS.

Congrats on some fine squirrels! The black squirrel is awesome!
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Congrats for sure!
Others have said it and I agree, hang on to that girl. My wife used to shoot with me and still buys me guns, and I've been hanging onto her for 24 years. The good ones are worth the trouble.
