The problem was in the chambering process and I assume that will not be a issue this time.

I never had a problem with my original SRH.
Rod, too.

I don't have an issue either and my gun is an early 2001 production.
Factory Hornady loads give just a hint of sticky extraction (they don't fall out but aren't difficult to remove. 425gr hard cast over a case full of H110 (starline brass) can be plucked out with your fingers.

Reason I never bought one. Why they didn't make in the 5 cylinder single action is beyond me? Ejecting one at a time would've done away with 6 in a single stroke. It would have been perfect!

Sounds like it's not an every gun issue then. I thought it might also be caused by loading up some hot rounds or something. Thanks

I'm loading my 480 with 412 grain cast bullets at 1200 fps and I don't have a problem with sticky extraction either. I have been VERY pleased with the accuracy of both my 480 and 454 SRH's.

Sounds like it's not an every gun issue then. I thought it might also be caused by loading up some hot rounds or something. Thanks It seems that brass makes a difference. There is a lengthy thread over on the RugerForum about Hornady 480R brass and sticky extraction. It seems to be more common with their cases, but I used Hornady brass with a 325 and a midland load of H110 and didn't have any issues. I do believe that some guys were trying to turn their 480R's into a 475L's and that played a part, and perhaps there were a few cylinders that were a little rough, but it surely was not the plague that some made it to be.
Rod, too.

I never had any problems with mine and i used hornady brass. I do remember a few of the 454's were having some problems, but don't recall hearing much of anything about the 480's.

Never had a problem in mine. I've used the Hornady factory 325 gr. w/ no issue. Nor any problems using Speer brass loaded with 420 gr. gas checked LSWC over a full house charge of H110.

I really wish Ruger would do the stupid paper work so they could sell the 480 in Cali, normaly they are pretty good with getting their guns approved here but so far they have not done it with the 480

I dont know for sure, other than every gun store i've gone to says they currently can't be ordered. YOu could get one on a private transfer but not new
Just this weekend I found a guy that owns a gun store, who told me alot of information other stores gave me was wrong, but when I've asked about someone ordering me a new SRH in 480 the universal answer ive been getting is no.
Our laws in cali are so screwy most the people that own gun stores dont fully know them, I think what they do is go of the lists in their computer, and dont really check beyond that.
On the plus side I found single actions get to skip the stupid drop test
So I have a new BFR on order now and im quite thrilled! =)

45-70 gvt
When he told me he could order me a BFR for some reason that was the one I new I just had to have. Having a guy willing to order me what I want, and having the money for it, at the same time, is rare for me lol.
So im not passing this up, im pretty excited all in all

A number of gun sellers make the mistake of thinking that if a handgun is not on the approved list it cannot be sold in California. All single actions, as well as all single shot pistols, are "exempt" from the drop test requirement, so there is nothing to be approved. Hence, they cannot be on the approved list.

If it is not to your liking, you can always send it to Ken Kelly at MagNaPort for a facelift. This was a 10.5" 45/70 BFR that I had cut to 8 3/8".
