SO I got my Taurus 44SS6 ported revolver. Has the standard open sights on it. I have the rear sight bottomed out and at 25 yards I am 6-12 inches high depending on the load used.
Is this indicative of the Taurus? I am a very good shot so don't think its me. Should I just get a taller front sight?

That doesn't surprise me too much. Isn't it wonderful when a manufacturer doesn't bother to actually use a gun they sell and find out that the sights aren't tall enough? Taurus isn't alone in this f-up. I've had colts and rugers with the same issue.

Yep, I'm not familiar with taurus because I would never allow them in my shop. Need to find out if a Smith sight or something else will fit and if not call tore-ass as Tig used to call them and see if they have the right sight. Lucien is testing their customer service on a brand new revolver with excessive cylinder movement so maybe you can make a secondary test.

I bought it second hand so not sure how open they are going to be to fix it. I also noticed that the cylinder feels a little loose. Not bad, but far from a "tight" fit. WHen I bought it I almost chose the Uberti 45 colt that was new. Same price too. Live and learn I guess.

On hold with Customer Service. This should be a good test of their CS.

No luck. I was told to basically pound sand. The only warranty sights, grips, and finsh for one year. But they would sell me the exact same sight if I wanted.
I can understand their stance, but also have to admit it left me with a less than satisfied feeling.

well they copied Smith although poorly but maybe a Smith sight will work.

Now you know why it was up for sale in the first place. Happens to poor old me all the time. BTW I would have told the rep if they made it they could fix it or I or anybody I could influence would never buy another product from them. Probably get the same responce you got but where did being nice get you?

I had to sell a Lipsey Ruger 44 special because of the same issue. It was the 4 5-8 model and couldn't get better than about 8-10" high at 25 yards. I'm no fan of Tauras but they don't have the market cornered for sight issues.

What loads were you guys using to get those results? A friend was selling his Taurus 44 last month and I was eyeing it. Spent my money on another S&W 28 in beautiful condition.

If they had just chambered the Highway Patrolman in more calibers double action revolvers would be a lot more affordable..

DOA, I have the same gun with 8 3/8" barrel. I actually broke the rear sight screw after it bottomed out trying to sight in some 320gr hardcast I had bought from DoubleTap. After calling Taurus, and since the gun was brand new, they sent a whole new sight assembly.(In fact someone goofed and sent a second new sight assembly a few weeks later) so at this point I can't bad mouth their customer service. To solve the POI issue, I plan on trying a taller FO front sight made for S&W which appears to be the same pinned in design.
