In my 15" off the rack TC 45-70 Encore barrel I'm loading 58.5grs of Varget under a Remington 300gr JHP with a CCI BR-2 primer and getting excellent accuracy....one very big jagged hole at 100 yds. with five rounds.

I tinkered with my 45-70 quite a bit and going heavier on the crimp helped my accuracy considerably also.

After determining the above Varget pet load I built another five pet loads but used CCI 250 Mag primers instead of the BR-2's....accuracy was nowhere as good, with any load, using the 250 Mags as it was with the BR-2's.

The Varget load shoots pretty darn flat out to 150yds. but from 150 to 200 yds the bullet drops about 18".....she seems to really start running out of steam fast in those last 50 yards.

38.5grs of IMR4198 under the 300gr Rem. JHP's also shot well in my barrel.
