I have 2 guns I am going to scope. Ordering Weigand rail and rings for my Ruger Super Redhawk 480 and SW 460 hunter. Talked to Weigand rep and he could not tell me if there rings would mount on the rail the 460 hunter comes with, any one here know?. They also suggested three rings on both guns. What scope would you all recommend for target and hunting.Appreciate all input,Thanks

I have 4 rings on my 460 S&W, but I'm of the opinion that "more is better" when it comes to holding a scope in place on that handgun. 3 rings could do perfectly fine though.
My scope has not moved since I put it on, and I used the Weigand rings on mine.

I only used two rings on my 460, and I've never had a problem with the scope moving.
I would think the Weigand rings would fit on the 460's rail. Don't know that for sure, though.

2 Warne Maxima rings on either the 480,and the 460 all you need.

Is there a preferred scope for both target shooting and hunting?

One of the variables should fill the bill for you . Weaver 2.5x8 [gets a bit picky about eye relief on the higher powers], still like mine though. Leupold a bit pricey, Bushnell Elite 2x6 like mine a lot,Burris hit and miss some love them some hate, eye relief picky on higher powers, and shortens. If you like fixed powers 4x Weaver is good bang for your buck. I personaly don't like 2 power scopes, some do but they do not give me enough magnification. I have one 2x and cuss it every time I use it.

The tallest Weigand rings did not offer enough clearance for me with a VX-3 Leupold 2.5x8 on my S&W 10.5" Hunter. I opted for the High Warne Maxima rings instead (4).
As far as variable scopes go, I like the Leupold 2.5x8 and Bushnell Elite 2x6's on my revolvers.

The weigands not high enough to clear. Which Warne, parts #, are the highs. The net chart does not work on my puter.

I first tried the factory Ruger rings on my .454 SRH. The scope (Leupold Vari-X 2.5x8) shifted in the rings, so I tried ring tape. It still moved, as did the rings on the receiver. Then I mounted a Weigand base, which attaches with a screw through the hole in the receiver that previously housed the rear sight and "washers" into the factory receiver cuts, wrapped it up with 3 Weigand rings with ring tape, and have not had a single issue since. I'm quite pleased with the setup. Don't have an X-frame, so I can't offer advice there.
