Good question. From what I've seen, the shortages aren't quite as bad as they were, but it'll still be a while before everything returns to normal.
Not to hijack this thread or anything, but do some of you older gentlemen remember how long it took for the Clinton-era shortages to end? From what I heard those shortages were pretty bad, too. That might be an indicator of how long it will be before the current shortages end.

The Clinton-era shortage in my area was nothing, compared to this one.

Should have learned from Clinton fiasco. I did and have 16# of 296- not for sale! Took about 1 1/2 years for things to get good then. I swore I'd never be caught like that again. I'm good for 7-8 years with all my powder except one. Live and learn.

SHUCKS, this is nothing, wait until Hillary gets in there. Apparently the MAJORITY of americans are just idiots enough to vote her in.
On topic, powder is slim around here too. I think a lot of guys got new reloading equipment for Christmas, and there was a lot of intrest surrounding hunting season so maybe it will get better before too long.

I do think there are more shooter in the us now. That makes demand higher. Supply is chugging as fast as it can (I hope). At some point the hoarders will be saturated and we will get a new normal. If I had a ammo or component company (I'd be rich and happy) I would be very careful before I spent the capital and time to make a new factory. I'd be running my existing factory at full capacity, but I wouldn't invest in a new factory knowing that the demand will stabilize about the time I'm up and running. I think. I shoot what I have ammo for, and buy it when I find it. I'm ok on bullet and primers, powder is the pinch point now. But it was all three that were short. This too will pass.
The above is redeemable for $0.02

That's not the same as being a tool is it? Naw, that comes later ;-) If I had the money I would start a rimfire plant. I don't see that ever being as it was. Just browsing the other day and the LGS had a dozen tac looking dedicated rimfires. AK-47, Sub-gun, AR, you name it. Everyone and their brother is making 22LR uppers for pistols and rifles. I haven't seen a box of 22 LR in 2 years.
Rod, too.

I, too, learned from the Clinton era situation. I was OK through it, but I am better "OK" now. New reloading store opened in our town. I know the owners and wanted to buy something. Did not have much that I needed, but they did have 8# of 110. Bought it, "just to support the new business" --- LOL.

HAHA!!! "just to support the new business." I like that reasoning! I'll use that on my wife next time I buy a new gun! I did it just to support the new business!!

According to a little inside info I received recently about 1 1/2 years before it will be even close to what it was. According to company execs in one company 3 years before rimfire ammo will be readily available.

I don't see it getting any better during the summer months but this go around is a little ridiculous - I just got 500 (5 boxes) of 230 grain Gold Dot bullets (.451) last week from Brownell's that I've had on back order since December 2012.
Powder by the pound is available around my neck of the woods but not much in 8# quantities.
VihtaVuori powder is a trick to find.

Things are starting to loosen up here. Powder is staying on the shelves for weeks at a time now. Bullets are readily available. It is the .22 ammo that has disappeared.

Was at my LGS this AM and they had many of the popular rifle powders but no pistol powders. No 22's, but they do get them in. They don't last long when they do tho. Local Wally had some boxes of 333's I was shocked to see.
Rod, too.
