I try not to shoot 'em where I'm gonna eat 'em ;-)

But, that is really dependant on bullet design and how fast you are pushing it. I've cut up more deer shot with rifles than pistols over the years and can say that even my warmish 45 Colt loads cause far less damage than your typical deer rifle.
