I've got a few boxes of 180 XTP for my .357 Max They shoot well. However I want to save them for load testing and most of all hunting. Now since they(180 XTP's)can be scarce to find and I like to practice I got 500 180 hard cast. But there's no gas checks. Will these be ok to shoot out of the Max ? What do you shoot for practice in the Max ? Thanks!

What do you shoot for practice in the Max ? 22LR Different barrel of course, but it does the job without spending my good bullets.
Rod, too.

But there's no gas checks. Give 'em a try. Are they sized already, and if so to what diameter?

How about if I use .357 magnum cases and only run the lead bullets at a moderate velocity ?

I really dislike shooting undersized cases in my guns. If it is a hard bullet it may not lead badly. I'd think a person could come up with a load with a faster powder like Titegroup or HS-6 that you could use in Maxi cases and bring the speed down a bit.

Trail Boss is your friend!! I just worked up a reduced load in my .357 Mag using Trail Boss and 180 WFN cast bullets. Very accurate. No recoil. No leading!! If you can find it, it's a great powder. For me anyway.

I am shooting 180, 200 and 210 gr cast w/checks. I think my load for the 180gr. is 19grns, 4227 and small rifle primers. Coogs.

So can I put gas checks on these bullets ? Missouri Bullet Company's .358 180 grain WFN ? Brinell is 18. I've no idea what I need to add gas checks. Is there a tool for that ?

You cannot put gas checks on bullets that were not cast for gas checks. They do not have the necessary step down that a gas check requires.
Least.......as I understand it.

Well I thought on it some and decided I didn't buy a Maximum to shoot mouse fart loads. So I bit the bullet(pun)and ordered some bullets with gas checks.
