Ruger has finally listened to big bore revolver fans and is now offering a Bisley Super Blackhawk in the .454Casull and .480Ruger chamberings!!! Both guns will have five shot cylinders of Carpenter Custom 465 stainless steel with recessed case heads. They will have 6 1/2" barrels and the long ejector from the 10" Super Blackhawk and Hunter models. They are a distributor special, only available only through Lipsey's. Read more about it below: http://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2...per-blackhawks/https://www.facebook.com/AmericanHunter?fref=ts

We were just talking about the new mystery chambering from Lipseys. Glad they took the plunge. It's long overdue.
Rod, too.

Hey, Bayside, think you could make a Frankenruger out of one of these? Would love too...and I think it would be great. But.... The cyl pin and ejector rod are in the way and no good way to get around them.

Somebody just wants to fight.............me thinks. Nope, I want someone to explain to me what would be gained by installing a 12" barrel and a goofy looking aluminum shroud on this sixgun. Another 200yd deer gun for those who carry portable shooting rests in the field?

As I said on the board, Ruger sent me a survey a few years ago and the last question was "what would you like to see made by Ruger" and my answer was a 5 shot Bisly in 480. I`am sure a few thousand other handgun hunters said the same thing. Good for Ruger.....

Another 200yd deer gun for those who carry portable shooting rests in the field? Oft times......"because I can".....is a valid reason. What would be gained by me buying this new Ruger? I'd have a new gun. Do I need it? Nope. Do I want it? Yep. Why? Because I can.

Has anybody heard what the street price is yet? List is $969 that would put store cost in the $725 range. I am going to try to pick up a 480
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

My LGS called Lipsey's today. They said the first batch of Casull revolvers was sold out and that the .480s supposedly hadn't arrived yet.
They put a Casull on backorder for me.

I don't need another gun, especially a handgun. For all intents and purposes shooting Arkansas deer and hogs my Bisley in 45 colt works amiably. That 480 Ruger calls out to me. I don't need it but when a used one pops up for sale for $550 it will probably find a loving home.

Glad to see both calibers come out in a Bisley, I thought the old story was that the Blackhawk frame couldn't handle Casull pressure and thats why they went with the Redhawk, you can sure tell there's different management at Ruger these days!

It wasn't the frame that was the issue, it was the cylinder. Ruger could not produce a 6 hole cylinder that would handle the pressure of the 454 given the standard alloy and diameter. By going to a 5 hole, they have essentially done what the custom smiths have been doing for years to make their big boomers.
Good on Ruger, this combination I am sure is going to sell out in a hurry as it now provides a real alternative to a custom big bore conversion or a BFR.

Actually, for a long time Ruger felt the frame wasn't up to the task. However, they reevaluated and tested, and here we are!

At the bottom of the article, there is a picture of Whitworth and a hog. Is that the new gun he used for that? What type of rail system is he using?

The sight mount is by Weigand and is a no drill, no tap variety. I mounted an Ultradot 4 with Weaver rings on it.
