I'd really like to have one in 454, as I already own a 480, but I truly don't think a person could do any better than a 480 in a Bisley. It's a beautiful gun in a very capable chambering.
I should sell a few long guns and buy one, but as my buddy said, "Never sell a gun to buy a gun." It's tempting though.

I ordered a 480 I don't know who said 2 months but mine said 6 months plus.
We will see if it ever shows up.
Until then I have a couple 45's that might work.
May have to buy a Franken Ruger so I can shoot 240 gr bullets at prairie dogs at 600 yards -- 55 gr bullets from a .223 just won't kill one dead enough these days.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I've been kicking around the idea of a 454 revolver. I really like the way Whit has his set up.

So Max, you played with both in .480 and .454. Any personal preference for one ? Also wonder how they compare to the BFR ?

Dropped by a gun shop I frequent while making my rounds in the panhandle and NW Oklahoma. They had one of the new Ruger Bisley 454 five shots in there laying on the counter for all to handle. It felt great in the hand as soon as I picked It up. He has some of the 480 Rugers on the way also. This one was marked 805.00, new, plus tax. I gave him my card and asked him to call me as soon as one of the 480's hit the door. He said he expects them in about 2 weeks. Very nice pistol. Mike

I ordered by 480 a week ago.
The 454 doesn't interest me, have other guns to handle that.

I bought the .454 Casull flavor today. Should be here in a couple days.

Ok guys, a few questions. Why is the bisley grip the only one deemed appropriate? I've never shot one. How does the Ruger compare to the BFR? What would you like to see in future models? Nothing wrong with this one, just wondering what may be coming next. I want in 454 Casull and a 7 1/2 inch Hunter model. Maybe with see thru rings and fiber optic sights. Am I asking too much? I can't afford one right now, to many irons in the fire.

To control recoil, you will find few that prefer the "plow handle" (for lack of qa better term) to the Bisley. Lots of Bisley shooters complain about getting their middle knuckle rapped by the trigger guard, but the vertical profile brings recoil back into your hand more like a double-action instead of a propensity to roll up like a plow handle. Hence the Bisley was the chosen grip frame on these two new models.
I don't know if Ruger will want anyone to hang an optic on the barrel of a .454. Keep in mind the operating pressure of the Casull and even the .480 relative to the .44 Magnum. I don't know if a Hunter model will ever come about.
How do they compare to a BFR? Lighter and more svelte. Both of mine are very accurate I might add.

I don't know if a Hunter model will ever come about. I am pretty certain it won't. Weigand said that the Ruger ringmount system wouldn't hold a scope on a Casull for even 10 shots. Ruger asked them to design a scope mount that would work, and you can see it on Max's gun. They have no intention of coming out with a Hunter model.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I see a success story here. This should make a great bear woods packing revolver. I am a big 480 Ruger fan, and I may have to add one to my herd. This one should be W-A-Y more packable than a Super RedHawk.

I'm glad Lipseys and a Ruger got Max and the other experts together and designed and built this revolver correctly. Exciting time to be a big bore guy.

Whit, if I make it out that way again I want to shoot your bisley at "the range." Just hope we don't get in trouble.
