The original XP was a midgrip. Then Remington discontinued the model. After some prodding by shooters they brought the XP back but with a rear grip, seemingly because it was easier for them to do. I don't really care for the rear grip as it is too front heavy and pretty much a bench gun only. The midgrip can be shot as any other handgun as it balances nicely. The Savage Striker is another midgrip bolt pistol, but also has an internal box magazine.
