I haven't been on here in a while, but always love this magical fall time of year, and getting to see other member's successes!
I hunted hard in Wyoming for deer this season, but was unable to connect with a mule deer buck with my FA, and ended up getting a doe whitetail with the rifle on the second to last day of the season after a month of hunting. Meat in the freezer!
I was lucky enough to tag this guy on the family farm in Southern MN! tickled pink to get him. He would have been an 8 point, but one of his tines is just a nub, so he is a handsome 7 pointer... my best buck with a handgun to date!
He came into view following the scent from a spike that had chased a small doe right past me earlier in the morning... and I instantly saw white antlers and knew he was a shooter. I tried to stop him with mouth grunts while drawing my revolver quickly, but could tell he was not going to stop, so I yelled "HEY!" and he turned toward me and stopped with just enough of his vitals exposed over the top of the bushes to make a shot.
It all happened very quickly, and at about 80 yards or so, hit him quartering to me somewhat, with the shot entering behind the close shoulder, and exiting a little ways in front of the offside rear leg. I had to shoot a hair higher to avoid shooting through one of the bushes behind me in the picture. the shot did the trick, he ran about 50 yards and piled up mid-stride. Full pass through. All smiles from there on out!
My attempt at a glamour shot! I don't know how you guys get some of those really pretty pictures! lol did the skull boiling while I was processing the buck... turned out really nice!
