Hey Guys, I took this buck a couple of days ago on a North Georgia, public land wildlife management area with my Freedom Arms 44 Mag (purchased from board member 500WE). My load was a 240 grain Swift A Frame and a case full of 296. I shot him in the neck, as he was quartering to me hard. The bullet traveled through the heart and exited low behind the deer's left front leg. He ran about 30-40 yards and piled up. Since this is a designated wilderness area, there is limited road access resulting in a 1 1/2 hour hike to the stand, gaining several feet of elevation along the way! It was a long pack-out but at least it was all downhill!

Wow! That's one heck of a buck, especially for public land.

Darrell,
Congrats again on a great public land trophy!
I keep telling you to shoot the smaller ones the farther away/more vertical elevation from the truck, but ...

Dangitboy! That's a fine specimen! Congrats! That's a purdy pistol, as well.

KRal, he was close! When I first spotted him he was probably 40 yards away. He was making a beeline toward my tree and I was concerned that he would hear me cock my single action revolver! While he was walking, I slowly unsnapped the holster, slid the gun out and click, click, clicked the revolver into the firing position. He went behind a huge poplar tree and when he emerged I mouth grunted in order to stop him, less than 10 yards away!
One other note, about 5-10 minutes before I saw this buck I had a super nice, coal black wild boar pass about 35 yards behind the treestand. Somehow or other, the good Lord delivered me from temptation and I was able to refrain from even drawing the weapon. I can hunt hogs with a muzzleloader in this area 9 months of the year, I can only hunt deer 5 days out of the year.
This time the decision not to shoot paid off.
Thanks for all of your comments guys, I appreciate it!

That is an incredible buck. I know exactly how hard those bucks are to come by and how much work goes into tagging one. It is even sweeter with a wheelgun. You have got these mountain bucks figured out and I look for your photos every fall. My hat is off to you for your accomplishments. Sincerely, Matthew Nash
