My son has a chance to buy a .45 ruger 4 5/8th barrel. The gun only has the a.c.p cylinder with it. He called Ruger for a price check on a .45 colt cylinder and could not get even a guess at the cost for the work. Ruger said to just send it back. Always like to know the cost before having work done.Does anyone have an educated guess at how much he is looking at for this work?

Might be cheaper to just buy a cylinder and install it himself.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Just a guess, but if the revolver left the factory with a 45 Colt cylinder as well, it may be sent back with both cylinders. I have found Ruger to be very good about customer service. Best of luck with the revolver.

I sent a Single Six back a few years ago for fitting and furnishing the .22 Mag. Cylinder. Cost was $50 including shipping.

No way I'd send it in without knowing the cost. Got burned once doing that. Wasn't by Ruger, but still.

If he is interested in selling the ACP cylinder let me know. Could help defray the cost of the .45 Colt cylinder.

I wouldn't send it in without a quote either. There is a 45 Colt cylinder for sale on G-Bro for $65. I am waiting to hear from the seller about the overall length. If it is the same length as your son's ACP cylinder it will drop right in. If a little longer it can be made to fit rather easily. http://www.gunbroker.com/Item/573315084
Rod, too.

Suggest you send it to Ruger with a request for estimated cost of replacement before doing any work.

What is the OAL of the 45 ACP cylinder that is already in the gun? I fitted a 45 ACP cylinder to my Bisley that was a few thou longer than the original 45 Colt cylinder, all it took was a few strokes with a stone. Works great!
Rod, too.

My son picked up his new to him 4 5/8thRuger Blackhawk .45ACP yesterday. Someone has fitted a Super Blackhawk frame to it and replaced the springs, left in the Blackhawk hammer .The trigger is nice and crisp. Miked the cylinder throats and they are big up to .457 so now load development starts.I cut down 6 .45 colt cases to ACP length and they work fine so can use them or maybe auto rim cases.I have some more short .45 cases so may cut down 20 or so to get him started. WE will blacken the case heads so there is no confusion . Going to try some 230 gr Xtp's and some cast and see what works. Would .45 Roland loads be too warm?

PM sent. I have loaded up and shot 45 super in my BH convertible. Used 230gr XTP's and they worked nicely. There were absolutely no signs of over pressure. Primers were not flattened at all and cases fell out easily. I will be going with the 460 Rowland data from this article using Longshot and 230 XTP. This article seems to say it will be fine....and they are using standard 45 acp brass. http://www.handloads.com/articles/default.asp?id=41If anyone has a different experience please let us know. My BH acp cylinder throats are all .451. I wonder if someone reamed those throats.
