What I do is take a folding camp saw in the woods when I am scouting, I find a sapling about 1" round that branches off in a Y at the top.
I then cut the branches on each side of the Y about 2" up then I cut the sapling at the base and trim it to be about 3.5 to 4 feet tall. and if i really want to get fancy I Will drill the base out and put a arrow insert in and use an old field point as a spike when walking on snow and ice.
it works very well for me and the camo can not be beat
