What ammo do you guys shoot in your .22 handguns. I pretty much stick to CCI Mini Mag HP's in all my .22's and get good accuracy with them. Just curious as to what others prefer.

I use Winchester and Remington 36 grain plated hollow points. Nothing fancy, but they get the job done.

WW 37 gr. hollowpoints, which seem to have been discontinued in favor of 36 gr. hollowpoints, or Federal Lightning, depending upon the gun.

My rifles really like CCI MiniMag HP's.
My Ruger MKII likes the CCI HP's as well. With a Pac Lite barrel it likes the CCI and Norma Tac-22 ammo.
My S&W Victory likes CCI Standard Velocity and Federal Am Eagle HP's.
I keep a chart on all of my guns on what ammo I've tried and which they shoot best. Then I break that down to best for plinking, target, and hunting.

Remington GB HP's for nearly everything. They work great and expand well at all velocities yet are subsonic through pistols.
Norma subsonic hollowpoints for suppressor use out of longer barrels.

Cci mini mags, cci standard, winchester dynapoints, fed american eagle hp's are some favorites. If you find some wolf match target....try it. Very accurate. Few yrs ago tried eley standard in brown box. Very accurate but quit making it and i forget which eley replaced it.

I like the accuracy of CCI mini mags but for squirrel hunting I only shoot solids. We eat the delicacy known as the Southern tree rat and HPs just make it nearly impossible to come out with one critter instead of two pieces of one critter. Spoilage due to bloodshot tissue is lower too.
Remington GBs do just fine out of my Buckmark as do the CCI standards.

My 22 shooting is exclusively target and plinking with an occasional squirrel every handful of years. For precision practice I use to shoot a lot of auto-match out of my 10-22, but it's such a dirty shooting round (and unavailable for a while) that I switched to Norma TAC-22. Either will consistently print 3/4 inch groups at 50 yards with the Norma performing slightly better (indoors and with a rifle). Mini-mags were usually in the 1"+ range and CCI hollow points in the 1.5" range in the same setup. For plinking it's whatever I can find.

Got a Ruger M77/22 rifle that really likes Winchester Dyna Points. Shoots 1/2" groups at 50yds on my better days. However, those shells are really hard to come by. It doesn't like the CCI mini mags.

I've had guns that wouldn't group with the most expensive target ammo available but delivered ragged one hole groups with ultra cheap ammo. A friends .22, same brand and model, was the reverse.
Too much variation to make general rules. Work out the approx speed and hp vs solid you need for your situation. Then test a sample of as many types as you can to find out what works best in your gun.

I have to agree with this, since every gun is different. Some like cheap and others like match grade. I have a couple of single actions that like that new Browning 1400FPS stuff. I got lucky and found it for 8.50 a box. Jacks didn't care for it.

Remington Subsonic has been my favorite 22lr round. They're accurate and have performed well on small game. I recently saw a video Winchester produced comparing the Remington Subsonic round to their subsonic by firing them into ballistic gel. They claimed the Remington round begins expansion too late to be effective for dispatching small game. I can't begin to guess how many cottontails, snowshoe hares, grouse and squirrels (along with one porcupine) Remington Subsonics have put in the pot for me. All of them died instantly so I guess they weren't aware of Winchesters test. Maybe it was due to the fact that they were made of flesh and bone, not ballistic gel.

For putting down large Jack Rabbits and for accuracy, I've had the best luck with Win. Power Points.

CCI is my go to. HP's for nothing you want to eat. Solids for the eaters.

CCI is my go to. HP's for nothing you want to eat. Solids for the eaters. Well you gotta take head shots. If I cant get a clear headshot on a squirrel I dont shoot.

My 22's revolver and rifle shoot Rem 36gr HP well for squirrel. I also found Wolf target 22 to shoot very well.
