I just read Max Prasac?s article in the American Hunter magazine. A great article Max. What a hunt! Up close and personal. Wow.

Just read your write up in American Hunter Max, very well done & a great bull. And yes, 15 yds is very close, about 2 seconds close, even less if he knows you just hurt him! Nice read, I enjoyed it.

Max Prasac aka Whitworth, that Gun Digest TV link provides a great overview of why you are the leader in promoting big-bore hunting and shooting. And by stating at the start how kinetic energy does not equal killing power, but hitting the vitals with a big-bore revolver bullet delivered deep by use of weight and diameter, is a measurable means to PROVE killing ability. I applaud you sir.

Looking on-line I can only see the 'How to prep' article. This is a top rate guide to the efforts required for our sport. I also notice that the latest newsletter sent out by Kahr Firearms Group prominently features a direct link to the article. Great job spreading the word.
Is there a further article detailing the hunt itself?

Is there a link so I can view the article on line? I get the NRAs shooting illustrated or whatever it is... Maybe need to switch back if AH has any regular handgun hunting stuff...

Thanks guys!
That link goes to the article about my preparation for that hunt, not the hunting feature which will eventually end up on the American Hunter website. All articles in the magazine first go to print before going to the site.

Max, I'm sure a bunch of readers in AH thought you were a little goofy writing about using the short guns on buff. I noticed on several TV shows (where the host is a "pro" and knows everything) that they say Cape buffs require a bunch of shots. Glad I didn't hear that before my trips. I've taken 3 Cape buffs- 2 with .416 Taylor Encore and one with .475 L(275X). One shot is all I needed on each one. Good article. Waiting for "the rest of the story".

The hunt feature is in the current (April) issue of American Hunter. On the issue of multiple shots. Even when my animal is hit lethally, it will get more convincing it's dead with multiple follow-up shots - whether it needs it or not. That's the way I'm wired and it's just good insurance. My first shot on my Cape buffalo was in the chest and we got around seven feet of penetration, including all the way through the rumen. But, I keep shooting...call me paranoid!

I can understand insurance shots on the Big 5 and the like, but aren?t you worried about meat loss with multiple shots on other game? Just curious.

I'm more concerned with the meat running away in its entirety... Anchoring it and getting one steak is better than not anchoring it and getting no steaks. We are talking about big and dangerous game in this instance. Keep in mind that pretty much all PHs will encourage their hunter to keep shooting irrespective of the lethality of the first shot, either rifle or handgun. They don't want you to lose your animal less than you do.

JUST GOT MY HANDS ON A COPY OF THE ARTICLE. I GOT TO SEE VIDEO OF THE MOUNTAIN CAPE BUFFALO HUNT, AS WELL AS TALK WITH MAX ABOUT THE HUNT, AND NOW I HAVE READ THE ARTICLE. GREAT ARTICLE, AND ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE CAPE BUFFALO HUNTS I KNOW ABOUT.
"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

Max, great article on the hunt preparation! Can?t wait to read the hunt article. From all the comments, it?s sounds like a good one.
