Very nice gun. Far better than a Ruger in fit and finish, but not quite a Freedom Arms. A lot of gun for a very reasonable price. My personal BFR is a 45/70, but I have shot BFRs in most of the calibers. I really like the 475/480, and that will be my next gun. John Taffin wrote an article on the 475/480 a couple of years ago, and pronounced it very accurate. There are some BFR reviews posted on the Magnum Research website, and you might find the article there.

I was looking at the the 454 BFR before I bought my FA 454, and I thought the short cylinder ones seemed good, but I decided on saving some more money and getting what I really wanted initially, they seem like quality guns, and one in the 475/480 is probably pretty sweet, I dont really care for the long cylinder one because they make my X-Frame 500 feel light, but all in all I think theyre built to last and good quality.
I have more guns than I need, but not nearly as many as I want...

I had the BFR in 45/70 and it was awesome, excellent accuracy and I was pushing 440gr hard cast to over 1600fps out of the 7.5in barrel. I own two custom Rugers in 475 and I love the cartridge and for a big bore it is capable of excellent accuracy out of a good gun and it will handle anything from deer to T-Rex. I don't know if you saw my post where I mentioned an article about a guy that had taken 3 elephants, all with one shot kills and one big bull at 60yds and the bullet penetrated through the skull, brain and hit the 3rd vertebrae for a total of 4 feet of penetration.

I always figured one in 375JDJ would be fun and they will rechamber the 375winchester cylinder to accept the jdj.

I have a .475 Linebaugh BFR and I really like it. I have a Freedom Arms Model 83 .500 WE, a .500 S&W Performance Center, a .454 Ruger Super Redhawk, and a .500 S&W BFR. I must admit that the .475 BFR is my most accurate revolver. It shoots all bullets very well. I highly recommend it.

Hi guys. As a lot of you know, I'm trying to import in Italy a BFR (I thought a .450/.45-70 Gov.), but the question which bother me is always the same: Is it worth the trouble for me invest a lot of money (about 1650 €) and of time in this gun? My friend who has moved in the USA when he has married an american girl, has said to me that with his PC 10" .450 BFR can reach more of 620 m/s (about 2050 fps) with 350 grs bullet without problems. He have one also in .500 S&W and he has suggest me to buy one (but in .500 S&W I can't 'cause it is illegal in my country). A lot of people I've heard in a few of american and german gun websites, instead, say that BFR revolvers would not as strong, powerful, accurate and perfect made as most think. What I have to do? And finally, between .45-70 and .450 Marlin, what you suggest I could take? With which I can have more power? Thank you partners

with the new frames that have the JT prefix on the serial number you can stoke the 45-70 up to equal the 450 or you can get both cylinders. The 45-70 brass is more plentifull and affordable but the 450 brass will last longer. I had the 7.5" 45-70 and I was running a 440 grain hardcast out at 1600+ fps and with a 2X Leupold I would avg 2-3" groups at 100yds. Hope that helps

El Che,
What about the 500 S&W is illegal in Italy? Is it the caliber or is it because it's a double action gun?
Gary
By the way, I sent you a PM about posting pictures. I fixed your post in the 44 Magnum thread.

Thank you Gary. The situation is this: in 2004 the BAD administration Berlusconi (son of a bi**h!, and now he governs again, s**t!! ) has declared as illegal .500 S&W magnum cartridge and all firearms able to shot it. In 2006 the new Governament (administration Prodi) has estabilished that .500 can be fired in single shot handguns only (Tanfoglio Raptor and TC Encore). .500 and .460 S&W firearms have no great market in Italy, especially considering that we can't hunt with handguns and that we must wait more of three months to have a Raptor (paying one about 2500 €) and six-seven months for a Thompson, and their use is only the long range shooting; and again, twenty .500 S&W rounds costs 50-55 €... not all italian gun lovers ar crazy like me!

Interesting - we have some jerks in New Jersey that are currently trying to outlaw everything 50 caliber & up including all antique and blackpowder rifles, etc.
What about other .50 caliber cartridges like the 500 Wyoming Express or the 500 JRH or the 500 Linebaugh? Are they also illegal?

they already did outlaw the 500 S&W in fairyland (san francisco) and they are looking at taking the 50 caliber ban beyond the S&W and BMG to include all .500 and larger guns and they are looking at it state wide, knowing california they will do it.

if it is only the 500 S&W that is outlawed you might look at the 500 Max which edges out the Smith or the 510 GNR which is a shortened Linebaugh, all 3 are .510 cal. The max and GNR are both custom jobs you can get through Gary Reeder, the max is his BMF revolver.( http://www.reedercustomguns.com ) The max requires a stretch frame and usually would require a donor 357 Maximum but Gary has his own frames built which are superior to the old ruger frames. If the ban is anything over .500 then Look at the 475 Maximum as it will be a flatter shooter than the 500s' and devastatingly powerfull and you get by the ban.

Yeah, them 5#, 1-1/2 foot long revolvers and BMG rifles are real popular with the gang bangers. Bet some faggot is real proud of himself for keeping the streets clear of them bad boys. Jeez.

I agree 100% with your statement, that area needs to fall into the sea. How can people be so stupid, it isn't the gun you have to worry about it's the person behind it. How much simpler can it be said? Stupid stupid stupid!

Good morning men. You must know that in Italy the only firearms - except for hunting shotgun and muzzleloading guns - we (Italian) can legally bought are those registered in the National Common Firearms Catalogue: any other firearm (hand or long gun)not enrolled in is to consider "war gun", consequently illegal. Among calibers Gary and wapitirod have mentioned only .357 Maximum and 500 Linebaugh are registered - so legal -, but if I'm not wrong only handguns able to shot Linebaugh .50 cartridges are Ruger custom revolvers (Gary Reeder, Bowen, etc.), and in Italy we would have to wait about 12-15 months before owning one; the .357 Max, instead, I have no interest in, it is too... "small". As far as .500 Wyoming Express, I think that nobody (till now!) has worried about, while I'm sure that in Italy neither greatest gun expert know something about .500 JRH or .510 GNR (me yes, but I'm an exception... the exception proves the rules... what you say, I can consider myself an expert? ). P.S. My english is worsened in the last month: too much little excercise! Sorry

Your English is just fine. Don't worry about it. I'm sorry you have so many restrictions on your firearms. I take it that your government doesn't realize that it is the person behind the gun that you have to watch out for not the gun. We are going through the same stuff over here, it just hasn't gone as far as yours has. Except California. Which we try to think of them as a country of their own. LOL
