I just picked up a set of Peltor Tactical 6S (behind the head mount) muffs. I have never worn another set that amplify sound so I have nothing to compare them to. They amplify sound well and do a good job as standard muffs. I was shooting my .45-70 with a muzzle brake and they worked just as well as the muffs I normally use. For the most part I plan to use them for stationary bear/predator calling and during stalks. I'm sure the Game Ear muffs work better, but so far I am impressed with these at a fraction of the price.
