Has anybody had luck with any of the Game Ear Protectors that are offered. I don't know anybody that has used them. Like always, I'm sure somebody on here has! I've been looking at the wishbooks and the net but with the prices being low and very high, I'm not sure which are at least descent to use? I have everything ready for this season except ear protection!

I can't afford $300 an ear for protection. Sometimes I use the earplugs that have the headband attached so when a deer comes out I just reach up and put them in prior to the shot, or regular muffs that I prop up higher on the head and slide down when needed. If in a position where I may need a quick shot I use electronic muffs that cost about 50 bucks or so. If I had an unlimited budget I'd try the Walker's, as they get the best reviews I've seen.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I just picked up a set of Peltor Tactical 6S (behind the head mount) muffs. I have never worn another set that amplify sound so I have nothing to compare them to. They amplify sound well and do a good job as standard muffs. I was shooting my .45-70 with a muzzle brake and they worked just as well as the muffs I normally use. For the most part I plan to use them for stationary bear/predator calling and during stalks. I'm sure the Game Ear muffs work better, but so far I am impressed with these at a fraction of the price.

Yeah I was asking so I dont spend the big mulla for something that might be cheaper. I see some for under $100 but like I said, thought I would ask first. The 44 with the h110 is a bit on the LOUD side!!!

Amazon had the best price I could find on the Peltor muffs, plus shipping was free.

I have the Walker Quad Muffs and if you can scratch up the funds that's the way to go. I've tried some of the cheaper ones but was never happy. I spent enough money on cheaper muffs to almost pay for the Walkers.

Let me add that if you taking a S&W 460 revolver out hunting make sure you have ear protection. I fired three rounds at a whitetail and I know that I did some damage to my hearing....

I've got the Peltor 6S and like them alot. For $69.00 you can't beat them. I looked at the Walker's just couldn't spend that type money at the time.

I had the exact same thing happen a couple years ago with mine. The wife and I were driving up to do some deer hunting and a coyote ran out, I bailed out of the rig and opened up and after the third shot the dog was still going but I felt like someone had run an ice pick through my ears.

I use the Tactical Peltors for my job as a LE firearms instructor. Glad I didn't have o buy them at $150 a pair. I got 6 of them for my guys through the dept. I didn't know Peltor had a seet that ws that low. Are they for hunting?
I know what you mean Rod. I was going to get my deer that I shot in the swamp and I kicked up another deer. well I drew my Ruger BH .45LC and shot twice. Well my hearing was shot for a few days. I had never shot that pistol whithout hearing protection.
I am also looking for something to wear in the woods this year.

Rod, You went through exactly the same thing I did with the 460 and you know what that cannon blast can do. it`s only to bad that you did not nail that coyote....

in my new Natchez flyer they have Walker Quad Power Muffs for 159.99 for black and 179.99 for camo. If those prices are correct thats dirt cheap, Cabelas shows them for 369.00 if I remember correctly and I know I paid over 300.00 for mine.

I have a set of the Game Ears, the basic ones behind the ear type. I used the Tac 6 for years but started to find them a hassle to carry around when not on. They are nice when it's cold out. The GE have A LOT MORE VOLUME than any muff style I"ve used. But they do not shut off for lower volumes like the muffs. If you are close to a road the trucks will get very loud and a Heuy (sp) helicopter overhead just above the tree line will drive you nuts. (it was a search and rescue National Guard following a state trail) I don't have a problem with my Striker in 22-250 when I used the factory break or with my new McGowen unbraked barrel. I haven't used them with my new Savage target action handgun in 338/300 WSM. It has a JP brake. I did change to a molded ear plug from the foam ones it came with. I got a do-it-yourself set from Gander for $14 and ran the tube into it when it was still a soft goo. Now I can leave them in all day and it doesn't bother me. BTW the batteries are cheap and last a long time. I use them coyote hunting all winter.

I use E.A.R. Flex foam plugs. They are on a flexable plastic band that stays on your neck, so you can slide them up to your ears in a flash. I manage to remember to get them in about 50% of the time.
Don't confuse shooting with hunting. Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

Has anyone tried the EAR Inc Acoustical Filtered Chameleon Ears? I wear glasses so having something go over my ear (like the game ears I can afford) just won't work. I was looking at them to help save my ears during hunting while still being able to hear some. I got a set of their custom molded (but solid) ones at a sporting event once. I love the way they feel and they stay locked in place. But they cut out all the sound. Was looking for something for deer hunting this fall that would reduce the noise, be comfortable, and not break my bank too much. http://www.earinc.com/p1-filtered-afiltered.phpAny other things I should look at? I have a pair of electronic hearing protectors but they are too big and clumsy for all day hunting. I still use them because what hearing I have left is important to me. Just had my second little boy a month ago. (yeah I know shameless plug). Thanks guys. Robb PS. Most of my hunting is with 12 gauge slugs and 44 mag pistols.

got a pair of these from the earplug store. these do blockout muzzle blasts, and they do enhance your surrounding noise. no problems with these so far.

Before you buy electronic hearing protection make sure and read the reviews on a site like Cabela'a. Many of them, including some of the very expensive brands, have lots of problems. Based on my observations a very large percentage of pro shooters use Pro Ears brand.

I do the same thing, I keep them hanging around my neck and if I see a deer, I stick them in my ears. I have a set of the Peltor 6S that I use for IDPA shooting but I can't see wearing them in the woods.
