This is a handgun hunting website and forum. However, we now have a VERY anti-gun president elect who, by examination of his past actions, would like nothing better than to ban all handguns, so called assault weapons and most likely anything that goes bang.
We do occasionally post items here that are not specifically related to handgun hunting but are more indicative of our frustrations with the current situation which I guarantee will affect everyone's ability to purchase and own firearms. I think most of us are angry and more than a little afraid that something we love and enjoy is going to be infringed upon for no good reason. I'm as guilty of venting my frustration here as anyone but it really pisses me off that a radical socialist like Obama is going to ruin this country.
If you voted for Obama and don't like the tone here then you're free (until Obama starts chopping up the Constitution) to go someplace else because you're not likely to get a very warm welcome here.
For the rest of us I would like to hear suggestions on how to address the issue of political posts in the hunting forum. We could create another forum or we could simply mark political threads with (PL) in the subject line so you can avoid those threads if you like. Any other ideas are welcome.
I would also suggest that when trolls appear that want to engage and inflame the majority the best way to deal with them is to ignore them.
You can't wait any longer. Join the NRA and start writing your Congressmen and Senators.

Mr. Gary, the truth being told, you are not going to please 100% of the people 100%. I know you do a lot of work on and for the form and we really appreciate what you do. The fact is it is nice to be able to associate with fine people with a common thread. My vote would actually be for a separate section dedicated to “PL.” It would also be our responsibility to leave the PL in that section and not offend anyone. ON THE OTHER HAND, I do feel like it is all our responsibilities as Americans to stand up for our rights and privileges.
Thanks Gary.

I agree with Duane's idea. I have greatly enjoyed reading and posting on this forum over the past few months. The thing that sets this place apart from almost all other forums is the friendly, informative, realistic ideas harbored by all. Like Gary said, I would really hate to have some "troll" come in here and start making trouble. We all know the right ways to live, think and feel and we damn sure don't need anyone telling us any different.

You hit right on Gary! I have opted to stay out of the nasty political mudslingn' posts. Personally I don't agree with the situation that is a black cloud for the future, it is not going to get resolved on here! I also vote for it to be in a separate forum. This is an excellent site, helpful information from alot of experienced shooters. Hunters as well.

I agree Gary and I think the PL designation is a good idea, that way we have a way to not only vent but to keep eachother updated on events as they unfold so we can all be as prepared as possible for what is to come. Thanks for great site and even with the venting I've done handguns and hunting are still my passion and why I come here and I have only been so vocal because of my passion for this sport and my way of life and those things which threaten it.

First off for the record the candidate I voted for did not win. One of the great things about our great nation is the right to say what we feel, even if it offends others. I would hate to see this great web site dip to the levels of other sites, because of flames over political views. We all share common bonds of handgun hunting, shooting and other sports that contain handguns. If there is a person that differs in views from your own, then just ignore that person. If we flame off on the troll, then we drop to the level of that person. We as hunters and more importantly handgun hunters cannot give any group any fuel to use against us and our sport. I am as frustrated as everyone else over what our nation is getting ready to face, however, we cannot add fuel to the anti hunting group's fires. I am not trying to upset anyone with my comments, just putting a little different light on it. If I am out of line, please politely let me know. Rick

All very good comments and ideas. I guess whether these types of posts are put on the Hunting Section with a special Tag Line or if there is a seperate forum for them is up to Gary in my opinion as this is his house as far as I am concerned. I don't really have an opinion one way or the other on how Gary decides to address the issue, but am wondering if there is a seperate forum so titled would it be easier for a non member to find it through a google search or something like that?
As per the trolls that want to just argue or cause trouble, I guess my opinion would be to ignore them or lock down the thread if it comes to that. I agree whole heartedly that they do not need more fuel to the fire as I am sure there is enough to go around.
The candidate I voted for also did not win the election, but from what I have read on the net it seems that his female running mate is still under fire. I wish they would give it a rest, the election is over and they were defeated. Hopefully there will be a different outcome in 4 years if there is enough country left to have an election. Are these people trying to add insult to injury?
OK I'll shut up now.

i don't like reading political junk most of the time, even when it is agreeable. imo....a seperate section may be better.

I would agree that a separate section would be better and would get my vote.

I'm sure everybody here knows that he won a big victory thru the Internet. Man the web is a powerful tool. Be nice to see all the owners of the gun websites get together and form a website dedicated to the airing (and addressing) of politics and suggestions of what can be done about President Hussein's decisions.
I think everybody's still shocked at what's occurred. Hopefully once the initial shock has worn off we can get together thru the Internet to try and find ways to keep our guns and heritage intact. Heck if the Internet worked for him it oughtta' work for us too!

I don't know as we need another forum, just add the political threads to the gun news forum. It would be a new title and not a new forum. Title it something like "Gun & Political News Discussion".
Yes my candidate lost the race. Bummer!!
As far as trolls go the best way to deal with them is to ignore them. They leave if no one wants to spar with them. It takes a better man to ignore the trouble makers than to feed them.

I think a different forum or page whatever you want to call it for political or whatever type venting would be just the ticket ,call it the battleground forum, and then folks that get offended by ranting people need to just stay out of that forum.Personally I have to be very careful not to actually POP A CORK when discussing politics ,I become severely animated(enraged)very easily this year for some reason. dorson

Ok here's what I think we shoud do. From now on all political posts should be placed under the Gun News forum. If however you still feel compelled to post something under handgun hunting for whatever reason then it needs to be marked (PL) in parentheses to indicate it's of a political nature. I reserve the right to move any posts to other forum as I see fit.
Good hunting, Gary

I'll go w/the separate thread thing. Where's the contact point where we all have to consider establishing our own nation or be over run by a new order? I'll bet "Big Brother" will be watching if they don't all ready.

I like the PL system, I've seen it work on other sites and I don't see why it wouldn't work here as well. I am so afraid for this country, our Constitution, and our firearms that I get pretty hot under the collar and having a thread just for venting and discussing our political view is a great idea. Trolls should be dragged behind a Jeep out to the nearest range and --- OK OK ignore them and they will go away. I think we need to communicate between us when we suspect a troll so we don't fall into thier trap. This can be done through PM's or Emails. If one of us suspects a troll they can bounce it off others so we don't make any mistakes and condem someone by accident. rupe

I do not engage in a lot of political discussion, I just vote (I lost this one too) and do the best I can. So, I'll not try to offer a hard-core opinion on the subject here, but I would rather not see the regular threads cluttered up with politics. If I shop for ammo, I want to go to the ammo section of the store, and not have to wade through car batteries to do it. If I'm in the mood for politics, I would like to go to the politics place. And that's a BIG if :)!
Whatever I'm discussing on here, I know that it will be with guys who continue to combine their passion with wisdom, honor, respect and maturity. And I am confident that no one else will last for too long in this atmosphere.
If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

Hi Gary,
Perfect solution. That will save the site from the wackos and let the rest of us share our passions on the love of the outdoors, hunting, the 2nd Amendment and our interest in short barreled guns!
Thanks!
